Yet another exciting set of races in the Mini Cooper Challenge last Friday as the drivers raced on the shorter version of the Jacarepagua circuit: the infamous Curva Sul layout. All eyes were of course focused on the battles between the two title contestants Jimi Hughes and Dan Allinson but there was a rookie driver that suprised us all.

New face on the grid Michael Braeutigam stole the hearts of our commentators James Kirk and Liam Jenkins as did the fans that watched the live broadcast. Braeutigam, who signed up late to the series together with his teammate Bernedo, drove a blistering lap during the qualification putting his Mini on the second spot of the ladder behind polesitter Dan Allinson with Hughes not meeting his own expectations in P5.

During an heroic battle in race 1 there was a straight duel between Allinson and Braeutigam that lasted until the final meters of the race where the former just managed to squeeze the nose of his car a little bit earlier under the checkered flag than the impressing rookie. Hughes controlled the damage of his failed qualification lap and finished in third position after a strong race.

The reversed grid in race 2 has been proven full of action since the start of the season. In this 40 car lottery it was a surprising Andy Pfannschmidt going for a sprint towards the champagne with Hughes and Harvey completing the podium.
