Gravel Videogame Delay 2.jpg

Proposed new racing title 'Gravel' has been delayed, release not expected until 2018.

When Milestone announced their new racing IP, Gravel, to the world media back at the San Francisco Game Developers Conference in March, we were led to believe that the Forza Horizon / Sega Rally style arcade racer would be with us sooner rather than later... however after a concerning period of silence from the Italian development studio, it appears that an unfortunate delay has hit the new title causing a postponement of a public release until 2018, and casting a large shadow over what should have been an exciting new venture from a developer looking to regain credit in the race game public opinion.

Revealed as part of the first video "Dev Diary" from Milestone, the news of a slippage in what appears to be the later stages of development will come as a blow to fans looking forward to this new arcade off road racer.

Despite having gone on record to confirm 2018 is expected as a new release period, no exact date has been revealed by the studio.

You can check out the very first Gravel Developer Diary in full below:

Take a step into Milestone offices and meet the technical, audio and art team behind Gravel, the new arcade off-road racer built with Unreal Engine 4. Milestone have given us a look behind the scenes of their new arcade racing title Gravel, sharing some interesting insights into the world of developing with Unreal 4.

Information about the new Gravel game has been somewhat thin on the ground in recent weeks, however with Milestone now attempting to up the ante in terms of promotion before a release in 2018, we get our first look at a new series of 'Developer Diary' videos from the studio.

In this first showcase feature, Milestone take us behind the scenes to have a look at what goes into making a game like Gravel, and some of the people involved in bringing this new title to PC and console players early next year.

Especially interesting due to the use of the often hyped Unreal 4 game engine, Gravel will mark the first semi serious car racing title to appear on the visually spectacular platform.

You can check out the five minute video for yourself below:

..........................

About the game.

Gravel will offer an experience unique to its kind: Milestone’s pedigree in simulation is valued here with physics grounded in reality, but fun will be the main focus, among wild drifting on the different terrains, crazy jumps and impossible manoeuvres.

The variety of powerful vehicles, from trophy trucks to rally legends, will offer many different approaches to the driving experience, and the wide offer of environments will have you strapped in for an unforgettable world tour.

Among deserts, jungles and snowy mountains you will have to shine in each and every discipline, whether it’s the wide open maps of the Cross Country or the narrow tracks of the Speed Cross. Become the ultimate Master or take part in some wild competition in the online game modes: Gravel will always have some fun ready for you!

Gravel is scheduled to release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC during 2018.

Milestone have released some new images from the upcoming Gravel videogame, perfectly showcasing the impressive visuals of the new title..

Recently delayed from the proposed late 2017 release, the new arcade racer from Milestone has been a little slow out of the blocks following its initial public announcement back in March. However with the studio now on the final development push, more and more information has been slowly trickling out of the Italian game devs.

Pitched firmly at the arcade side of the genre, Gravel appears to be something of a cross between the Forza Horizon series and the ever popular Sega Rally from the late 1990's. Set in scenic locations around the world and given various high performance toys to play with, the new racing game from Milestone looks likely to provide plenty of high speed action once it finally hits the public arena in 2018.

Using Unreal 4 as a base game engine plus an array of official manufacturer licences, Milestone could well be on to a good thing with Gravel, giving the all important casual racer demographic another viable alternative from the wealth of mainstream racing games available at present.

If the screenshots are anything to go by, the new title will at the very least provide a visually spectacular treat for those who pick up a copy next year.

I've got my eye on this title. Back during the Playstation 2 days, there was a first party franchise called ATV Offroad Fury. It had four mainline releases. The fourth one in particular was great - it added trucks and buggies, had very imaginative stadium style, national, freestyle, and cross country multi-route racing. Gravel reminds me a lot of that game.

The world building was also kinda dorky - a lot like Gravel.
