Keypad question

I started building me a cockpit today and togught about adding a USB keypad to the dash and assign the buttons du various functions in game (rFactor and LFS) but I'm not sure if the extra USB keypad is recognized as additional keys or if it will just be a copy of my built-in notebook keypad.

Can I assign different functions on the 2 different keypads (num-pad and USB-keypad) or will the functions just be copied and will be the same on both pads?

I have a Belkin 52 and it just duplicates keys on the main keyboard. Hope that helps.
