Is the RACE On expansion overpriced?

I would have bought Race On even if it was £30.
Simply because there is no other(new) race sim on the PC apart from specialist products like iRacing and there are no others on the horizon/

I will play Race On nearly every weekend in the year until they release the next expansion. so i think it is value for money.

EA offer new games in their sports series at full price every year even though they only sometimes tweak the previous edition and update rosters. Which is more or less what Race On is, however SimBin did not charge the for a full game. Which i guess they could have done if they wanted to.

Come on £18 for a years gamming, even a student can afford that.

or - you could look on it as DLC rather than a new game revision....
and for DLC the price is, uh, not so good....
guess it depends on yer perspective...

I've finally got Race On:good:.

I didn't want to pay £18 for a download and the UK shops have it for £30 which is too much as I already have the boxed versions of Evo and STCC.

Now Amazon.co.uk have it for £20 I bought it as that's what I was expecting for it originally and I have my nice shiny box. For the whole product if you don't own any already it's a stonking price for so much content:good:.

Philip - thankyou for bringing the online prices for full DVD box to my attention - I ordered Race On 4 days ago, it arrived yesterday and I installed it last night - Full boxed DVD Game (not just the expansion) for less than £20 delivered - STEAM Sucks for how your stuck with games tied to the one account, and I see now it sucks for how they rip you off - GTR Evo is still like £15 for the add on, but the FULL boxed DVD can be bought online for less than £8 - I appreciate the need to combat piracy, but the sooner SIMBIN find a better way, without the constant pointless advertising, and endless STEAM updates for games I don't have and never will have the better as far as I am concerned...

So I think the Race On expansion is overpriced - If you go to Steam, get it boxed online and its quite a good buy.

I got the steam bundle about 3 weeks or so ago, at the time I thought it was expensive but now I think it`s worth it for Formula Masters alone, I havent tried STCC yet, muscle cars dont really interest me but the extra tracks are nice and you get WTCC 08 as well, so it really is worth it IMO, I have the box versions of the other Simbin titles and will pick a cheap Race On up sometime next year. I dont have any problems with steam but it`s nice to own the discs.

Race On is a very nice addon to Race07/Gtr Evo.
But i do think it is overpriced.

Nowaydays you will see a lot of games that will be provided with DLC(downloadable content)that most of the times is available for free or for just a minor fee.
I agree that race on is a bit more then just a new mappack for a game but its not worth 29.95.
Its a minor addon and they will probably launch one every year now?
It would be better to let people pay for what they want..like some people never play muscle cars but they have to pay for it.
Some people only want Wtcc08 but have to pay for the other classes too.
IMO it would be better to make the content available as payware downloads so that the drivers can decide what they want.
It still would be good to bundle every new class and track into a boxed version so that people can buy it all for a better price.
Ifcourse the prices should be a lot lower.
For example: Wtcc08 7.95 - 08 trackpack 7.95
This may be more expensive then just buy the boxed version but now you dont have to pay for something you dont use so for some people(like me) its cheaper.

If i buy it on steam, and this i gonna do,it cost me 29 Euro.I think it is a bit higher but this is just for a time because the game it's new, wait 4 months more and it will drop i think.YES IT IS QUITE HIGH.

Now it cost on amazon.co.uk including uninsured shipment to continental-europe 18,94 BP = 20,95 €. I wait for under 15 €. Also during the chrismas-time the delivery is stressed and insecure (at least the shipping form uk to europe). http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kalypso-Med...6?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1260410815&sr=8-10

I planned to buy it for Christmas but I'm not going to do it at the end. It's just not different enough, not worth it for me.
I would love to have the new content (mainly the Lada), and I would love to race more club events as they're almost completely running on Race On now.
But every time buying it crosses my mind, my inner voice shouts a big NO at me!
I would buy it for 10€ or such price I think. Race 07 + GTR Evo costs about 7€ in our stores at the moment, Race On is around 26€. (!?!?!)

I bought it *shrugs* I wanted to have more race options available at RD to join and it fulfills that purpose.

The extra cars/track options are fine and I don't begrudge SimBin the 21UKP (Steam) as I only paid 8UKP for GTR Evo in a sale at Play.com.

Most PC games cost me 30UKP new and 15 to 20UKP per expansion (My wife is a Sims addict...) so I don't see why everyone is complaining. :cow:

I think its fairly priced. most of the expansions are. I was slightly gutted about STCC, but not because of the price or content but because it bombed a bit on using the extra tracks, but since its shipping with Race On that might change.

Its worth 20 quid just for the masters, but a more varied field for S2000 events is always welcome in my eyes, as long as its not the only selling point.

Borrow someones copy and try Formula Masters and you will be searching for your credit card :biggrin1:

I admit, I don't have Race On, but from what I can see, Race On provides decent value for money, as good as the rest of the addons. The frustrating thing about it is the stone age game engine. They're running on the same game engine as they have been for years now, rather than their new Lizard engine. Xbox 360 owners of Race Pro get things like HDR lighting, and shadows in the cockpit. So what are they waiting for on PC?

I don't see the problem. All the tracks and cars are already there in Race Pro, the process of converting them over to the new engine is already done. If it wasn't, then what's it doing in Race Pro?

Or are you talking about the question "what do we do about the existing expansions for Race?" In which case I can see how that'd be a problem. Take all the expansions, package them up in a new game with a new engine, no upgrade option, and you'll piss off everyone who bought the expansions beforehand. Make existing expansions compatible with the new engine, and you're getting into the complicated world of either...

A) Enabling the engine load two different file types for everything, regardless of advantages the newer may have over the older
B) Converting the old addons over to the new file formats, and have two versions of each one kicking around, save leaving existing owners in the dark

Neither of them are simple, convenient or straight forward. Although to me, the latter sounds like the least of all evils. All I can hope for is whatever they choose to do, they do it with their target audience's interest in mind. The world of racing sims is small enough that if Simbin make their audience feel ripped off, there'll be hell to pay.
