Is GTR Evolution realistic?

Hello,

I was wondering if GTR-evolution is realist. I am actually playing at this game and I found that it is a very good game but I would like to have the opinion of the RD community who have the opportunity to drive on track real cars !!!

Do you think that the behavior of the cars in the game are identical to the real one ? In reality, I think about the behavior of the mini or WTCC cars.

Thank you.

Well it's realistic enough for me! I'm shitting my pants full each time i have a race a Zandvoort and 24 cars are diving into the Tarzan curve....

I think it may be best if you edit your post a little Eric, this is a family forum after all :thumb:

Have you guys tried the Viper SRT 10 yet? It's to me the most realistic car in the pack. It's a beast, and very hard to drive on the limit. Sliding through corners in it is quite an experience, and quite realistic also. Give it a try and you'll see.

GTR Evolution is a good as it gets. I've done quite a bit of rally racing and some time on blacktop and for sure GTR Evo comes the closest yet to simulating the real thing... I'm still smiling that they even included tearoffs in their sim.

The only problem I see is that it will take several years of racing to get through the sim.

Great Work!

If it is 100% realistic i just pray for anyone who ownes a Gumpert or Konisegg LOL!

Toby Newton who drove radicals in 2007 said the radicals feel a bit arcade for him. I have not gotten feedback from Edwards for the GT cars in Evo as he's drove most of those cars and don't know if I will but most do feel pretty realistic to me and I know the WTCC cars are realistic and FBMW seems it also.

The only thing that I'm not quite pleased with in GTR Evo is the graphics. I think they look slightly more cartoonish than in GTL or GTR 2. Especially bright colours are a little wierd. Grass for example. It doesn't look very real or alive.

hmm

although i love GTR EVO and also GTR2, it will never feel truly realistic,
for the plain and simple reason you cannot feel the weight of the car or the feeling of g forces etc
i did banger racing for nearly 11 years driving everything from a granada to mk2 and 3 jags etc
i've also dabbled a little in stage rallying back in the ealry 90's using a mk1 escort rs2000.
so i'm pretty much used to oversteer, but in these games i find it is pretty unpredictable to say the least.

what you must remember is these are, after all, games.

Some time ago I read the opinion of the real driver about Race07 and GTR Evo. I cannot find it now, can you help me?

Well I have some real racing drivers racing for my race team, Toby Newton being one as said above he thought the radicals where a bit arcade, Edwards said that GTR2 felt a bit dumbed down and liked some of the mods rFactor has as they feel more realistic to him. That's as far as I can go regarding feedback from real racing drivers, I will try and get more feedback from them if they ever try the GT cars in Evo which I feel are pretty realistic myself but I've never drove any of those cars so my opinion is not accurate. I know the WTCC / FBMW cars are realisitc though :)

Am ganna take a quote from Fernando Rees (http://www.fernandorees.com/indexUK.html) as am sure some of you may find it interesting.

I can only compare between GTR2 and GTR-Evo, since I didn't test the others.

I feel that GTR2 is closer to reality.

If there's one thing that seems to be really difficult to simulate is the "butt feeling" that you have in real cars. Of course, nothing is really moving in simulators, so you can't have that, but that's the most important thing to give a sense of control of the car. GTR2 is closer to reality because you have more control of the car - not meaning that it's easier to drive, but in the sense that you know better how to produce the desired behaviors in the car through your driving.

One thing that both simulators have is that the cars have too much grip, especially in fast corners. GT cars are actually much slower than what we drive in GTR2 or GTR-Evo. This is not a real issue in most of the cases, but when people starting modding the game to add quicker categories (Le Mans Series, formula cars, etc) it becomes completely unreal. I believe that, in GTR2, the GTs should go as quick as the G2s or NGTs go... and the NGTs even slower...

Interesting how he talks about the grip levels... I had a go on GTR2 today - first time ive been on it properly since Evo came out. First lap i did was over a second quicker than i had done previously, and its mainly down to the GTR Evo cars having less grip and therefore being harder to drive. When i drove a GTR2 GT car like that it was much quicker than i had found it to be before. I think that GTR Evo is more realistic when you compare the lap times to real life rather than GTR2 as with GTR2 you can quite happily go 4-5 seconds faster than in real life on some tracks. I think i found Evo to be about 2-3 seconds slower at Donington National (was a while back, cant remember it too well) so it seems Simbin noticed that they had given the cars too much grip and downforce.

Luke, i agree that they do all feel very different, but the main problem with LFS is the fact that a lot of the cars are made up which makes it hard to accept how realistic they may be. That said, it is a good sim and the FBMW felt very good compared to the GTR Evo one.

I agree james, they made the grip less in the GT Pro cars in Evo, for example my best time at Doni in GTR2 is 23.0, in Evo it's 25.8 and it's very much the same at Anderstorp, best in GTR2 is 22:7, best in Evo is 25.6. (GT1 & GT Pro compared)

I will ask him what he thinks of this and see what he says.
