Steering wheel alignment with in-game wheels & eliminating steering lag

To match your steering rotation with the in-game steering wheel rotation, just make sure your "GRAPHICAL STEERING WHEEL RANGE" setting in CONTROLS menu matches your controller setting - be that 180, 270, 540, 900 or whatever - this setting affects the in-game graphical steering wheel rotation only. If the controller setting and this in-game setting are the same, both graphical and controller wheels steering position will match 1:1.

If the controller setting and in-game steering wheel rotation are the same but they are still not aligning all the time or lagging, check that:

- steering help is switched off;
- speed sensitivity slider in CONTROLS > CONTROLLER 2 menu is at 0%;
- your FPS performance is over 60 FPS;
- VSync is switched off.

Setting up the correct steering ratio

For controlling the car you also need to ensure the steering ratio is correct. This is the ratio between your controller steering rotation and in-game steering lock (the maximum angle the front wheels will turn, set from the Garage menu).

Default steering lock for all cars is 14 degrees, which is suitable for 270º of steering rotation from your controller. You can achieve better & more realistic steering ratio by setting steering rotation & steering lock as below:

-For the formula cars, MR18, Marcas and the StockV8s, set your controller rotation to 450-540 degrees, and steering lock to 18-24 degrees;

-For the Camaro, Opala and Mini set steering rotation to 900º, and steering lock to 30-33 degrees;

-For the karts, set steering to 180º, keeping default steering lock of 16 degrees.

Keep in mind that the steering rotation that is relevant to steering ratio is from your controller profile - the steering rotation you can set from the CONTROLS menu is just for the graphical steering wheel.

As described above, 270 degrees of rotation is suitable for the default steering lock in all cars. It is recommended however that this setting is adjusted to what is more suitable for each car, which will require re-adjusting this setting both in Logitech profile as well as the "GRAPHICAL STEERING WHEEL RANGE" in the Controls menu.

You don´t necessarily have to access the Logitech profile to change wheel rotation with the G25 / G27 - you can do it from the controller itself, by holding the two middle red buttons and press one of the following:

Top: 240 degrees

Right: 670 degrees

Left: 450 degrees

Bottom: 900 degrees

Apparently this also will work for the DFGT, but obviously the settings and buttons to press are different.

In-game there is no secret - just use the settings from the default G25 / G27 profiles, making sure
FFB effects is set to Low and strentgh to -100% . Adjust "GRAPHICAL STEERING WHEEL RANGE" to match your Logitech profile setting:

(Not that the "HEAD MOVEMENT / LOOK AHEAD / EXAGGERATE YAW sliders are for the view movement in-cockpit, not related to the actual controller setting. Digital rates are relevant for keyboards / gamepad users)

There is naturally a degree of of personal taste to these settings - you may increase centering force for example if you prefer more resistance from the wheel around the center, or you may increase FFB effects in-game from LOW to add canned effects, but these settings should provide the purest FFB.

Settings for TM T500 RS & Fanatec CSR V1/V2 will follow up shortly.

i still have only been able to change the degree of rotation of the wheel outside of any games with the logitech software
Ya, you set the physical degrees of your wheel in Windows control panel under your wheel's settings. Then you set how much lock you want the actual car in-game to turn. That lock (example, 32 degrees) will be spread across whatever physical lock you have your wheel set to (example, 900 degrees). So, if you want your wheel to not turn 900 degrees but, for example, only half at 450 degrees, but you want to keep the same steering ratio, then you would also half the in-game car's steering lock; so in this case you would half that to 16 degrees. 450/16 would give you the exact same steering feel as 900/32, the only difference is your total amount of steering ends once you reach 450/16 degrees instead of 900/32. So all you're doing is limiting the total amount you can turn the car's wheels and your wheel while everything else remains identical (since you exactly halved both numbers).

In other words, the in-game garage settings lock is just the amount of lock the tyres of the in-game car's physics turn, and your wheels control panel lock is how much lock you want your real wheel to register and turn. Simple as that.
 
Can anyone help me with massive oscillation issues? The wheel itself is 20Nm OSW controlled by MMOS FFB software. Every car starts to oscillate if I don't hold the wheel while going over bump, some cars doesn't need even the bump. I haven't done anything with the ini-files yet. Running 50% damping from the MMOS. Even tried 100% damping with some filter in it without a success. In-game effects "low" and gain set to ~40%.

From where should I start? Thanks.

Quoting myself. The newly released 1.48 beta fixed the oscillation issues mostly. Still have oscillation if I let go the wheel but no more wrist breaking action on high speed.
 
@Reiza Studios An inquiry about the new automated steering feature in v1.48 :

I know i'm most likely in minority and my ''issue'' is probably an uncommon one.
Namely, until now i've needed to lower the steering sensitivity, because the default 50% value makes the ratio excessive/highly sensitive and thus undrivable in my case.
I guess my old wheel is not fully supported (MS Sidewinder with ca. 220 deg rotation), because i read that i should leave the st. sensitivity value at default. But that doesn't work for me, the ratio is still excessively sensitive with even the lowest steering lock.

It's no big deal, though. I just need to lower the st. sensitivity value and then it's fine.
I've been using values 15-25%, depending on the car, and have controller profiles setup for each individual car.

What i'd like to know is if these values will translate into v1.48 or will i need to setup new profiles and redial the values ?

I'm not a beta backer so i cannot yet try it out.

hi all, I am completely new to the PC, started with AC, now i am moving to all the genre's games to test it all out, but i am lost in wheel settings. so my request kindly goes out to all those pro's, experienced and knowledgeable racers out here in RD. what would you recommend for me to setup for my CSW V2 + CSP V2 (with shock modified/ upgraded).

You might want to look back at post #168 on page 9 of this thread where Spinelli put up some CSW V2 settings. Not sure if they are still good but it is a good starting point. I use a CSW V2 also but my rig has been apart for a while to install new pedals so I haven't tried the new itterations of GSCE.
I will say that I generally set my SENS to 540 on the actual wheel settings (the five game settings you have on the wheel) and use this for GSCE then set my in game lock to about 18-23 depending on the car I'm driving. Hope that helps.
