How to Change Tires?

So if i run 5 laps on my supersofts and then want new ones do i have to restart or from the pits can i change them by going into my setup and switching to a different compound and then back to the supersofts?

As soon as you go back to pits (or restart) you will automatically be given new tires

Ok, I wondered that but on the tire app i was using it wouldn't update the percentage usage when i left the pits. Must be an app issue.
