I have all the mandatory coverage on both my vehicles plus I added:

Loss of Use: Insurance pays for rental car and travelling costs while my vehicle is being repaired due to accident.

Limited Depreciation: If my vehicle is written off, i get a bit more back than standard ICBC value.

I pay $3100 a year for my truck, $258 a month 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8
$2200 a year for my car, $183 a month 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS

I dont own a car but for example the mandatory traffic insurance for 1996 Nissan Almera is about 560 € per year. The amount you pay depends on car (year/model), sex and age of the insurance taker. That basic insurance only covers personal and property damage inflected to other people/property.

Insurance: I did a check online for a 17 year old student who is living at home
His quote?
£14,000 a year! (about 17,000 euros)

Insurance prices seem to vary ridiculously, with my car I had some companies that flat out would not insure me, others wanted up to £4000, thankfully there are less insane insurance companies out there that would do it for a nice £600 a year fully comp, paying monthly.

I feel sorry for young (17 year olds for example) drivers here, the price on insurance for any car is ridiculously high, and if the car has anything approaching what one might consider powerful (lets say 100bhp or more) a 17 year old would be lucky if any insurance company would actually insure him (and I say him for a reason, it's a lot more expensive for males), even then it would likely be a few thousand at least.

personally I'm a taxi driver and my insurance costs 1099 a year for Subaru Impreza, and it's much cheaper than in my previous insurance company where it cost 1600 a year. Frankly speaking, I'm quite pleased using services of my taxi insurance because, for example, recently my car broke on the road and I called my insurance company and they took my car to their own auto repair shop and made me a 70% discount on repairs, by the way, it was fast because repair took only an hour
