Have Your Say: Acceptable Risk or Dangerous Liability? The Isle of Man TT

Voted no, these brave people are not made to race the TT against their will. It's their choice and free will is a part of humanity, take it away and it's nanny state nonsense. I do find it a bit unnerving to watch though, and I'm constantly aghast at the skill, commitment and bravery bordering on insanity it takes to do what they do. Especially the privateers.

23 deaths since 2011.
In a road race.
More people are murdered by illegal drones, everyday.
In illegal 'wars'.
Including children.
Everyday.
Don't fall for PC deflection.
'Divide and Conquer'; PC deflection is a tool of governments to control you.
Simply by getting you to fall out with others, and argue.
Focus on the real issues.
Enjoy the sport for what it is.
Get angry about illegal wars, not motorcycle racing.

What on earth is this "illegal drones" BS? Why are "drones" seen as an evil thing? Drones can loiter over a target and the pilot is at no risk so can take their time and can even get a superior to double check a decision...compare that with a fighter jet bombing along at low level at 500mph, were the pilot has to make a decision on if the target is correct or not whilst trying not to crash (if single seater) and often under fire.

And most wars are "illegal". Unless you mean Iraq.....but what about Libya, Syria, Afghanistan, 1st gulf War...all "legal"......the "legal" state of war is nonsense.

Should we have gone to war against Hitler, that war was just? Millions MORE died because of doing that......those deaths justified because it got rid of a nutter?

(Sorry for going off topic)

I think it is probably impossible to make a Motorbike safe at high speed incidents, were getting there with cars just look at Indycar and the amazing safety innovations, imo we need to not look at improving the bikes safety features but the riders and there gear, shock absorbing helmets and something similar to a stab proof vest for the suit but obviously less bulky, or even something similar to an air bag that is activated by a button or cord, and inflates over the vulnerable parts of the riders body when there is a crash

Mr Damage Inc likes motorbikes just like me, so we agree on something...

Mod edit: do not get personal, and stay on topic please, do not mention any more wars, religion, or any other thing than the TT in this thread please.
and don't reply to this, ive heard enough from you two...
@Timmy UK
@Damage Inc
consider this a warning!!

Dainese race suits already incorporate air bags and other safety measures. Shock absorbing helmet? Don't know about that. Most motorcycle race deaths occur because of the big sudden stop the rider usually gets. The organs in the body cannot compensate for the sudden and traumatic sudden stop.
Its safe enough anyway. You cannot make the TT or the other real road races any safer without spoiling the attraction.

These people choose to take part fully understanding the risk's they are facing then it is their choice.
On the flip side there is also the risk of other getting injured or killed just been in the wrong place at the wrong moment.

But those who spectate also understand the risks too.

There is know way to really make the TT safe to the point of track based events.
These days we live in a padded cotton wool world where lots see everything has be to dangerous.
This event is one of island biggest money spinners , the lost of that income would hit them hard.

If any kills it off it will be cost's of public liability for insuring the event in case of major incident that could lead to a major law suit.
Or loosing major sponsors .
The TT is independent of the FIA I think please correct me on that one .
The risk is what draws the riders there & the fans so it carry on for now I am sure.

On a positive note he is hoping for a speedy recovery to the riders that had accidents this year.
Hutchy posted a pic of his leg on twitter... almost lost my dinner looking at it... no need to post it on here
there is a video of the accident and for the most it don't look that bad, so in one sense he was very lucky.

Indeed Rupe.
Hutchy will bounce back. And hopefully John McGuiness will too. Although I think Guy Martin has had his chance at winning a TT and he won't be back.

I do hope so,
i must admit i am a bit of a guy martin fan, i just like the guy, but i also think his time of winning has gone.
Ryan farquhar was also a lucky man and i think he decided enough was enough after his spill.
maybe John McGuiness once recovered will hang up the boots also... he has nothing to prove any more
Well none of them have anything to prove its just what they set in their own minds..maybe its this i must get fit to race that helps them recover..:)

(apologies to all for going off topic earlier)

I really feel sorry for Hutchinson (is it me or does he seem too mild mannered in interviews to be a road racer?!!) I saw the TV docu about his bad leg break earlier in his career and what he went through would have mentally smegged me up. All bike racers are tough as nails and especially the ones who tackle the TT and the other road races. My mind truly boggles.

Yes. He's too busy with his TV career these days. But the trouble with Guy is that he has loads of fans, and they have made him what he is. But he doesn't like interacting with them at all.

ps, I met Guy two weeks ago at Laxey beach. Me and my mate had ridden there for breakfast at the Laxey Beach cafe. Guy was walking his Dog Nigel with his pregnant girlfriend. We said Hi to him but he didn't want to chat at all. Made a beeline for his van. But that's him and I respect that.

Voted no, it shouldn't be banned. Should be up to the drivers if they want to risk it.

Only thing I would want to see is more safety features on the "track", where possible. Quite a few places where the track isn't just a danger for the driver. It'll go on like this with an unfortunate death here and there until some really bad crash where several spectators, residents get killed.

You are either trolling us here or you are one of the PC brigade. I'm not sure which.
There were far more deaths at the TT in the old days and through the 70's and 80's than their is now. Bikes are more powerful but they also have better brakes, better handling and better tyres.
Any way why am I discussing this with someone who would take a man's freedom to compete away from him just because you don't agree with it and don't do such things yourself? You don't know anything about real road racing going by some of your comments above. And to even compare it with you doing 180 through your own town is just plain bat crazy.
Oh and believe me they don't do it for the money. Some use their life savings to compete at the TT. Even some of the top riders only get a paltry winning fee, sometimes less than a thousand quid. You wouldn't get an F1 driver doing it for that. And fame can't be the motive either. Most on here had probably never heard of Josh Brookes or Peter Hickman or even Michael Dunlop.
Ask yourself a question. Does it harm you or affect you in any way if these brave men and women decide to do such dangerous racing? Does it really harm you? Why would it bother you?

Yeah, I'm trolling. That's what I'm doing.
Well, hey have at it then. Great stuff.

When the odds are so high of death i think its wrong, im not doubting skill or bravery but too many are driving beyond the limit of both. Some people don't have a strong sense of danger, some believe there immortal, some believe they are incredibly skilled, some are wrong. They are the ones that need protection... From themselves. For the sake of there loved ones. Sport shouldn't lead to death.

It's no different than our daily commutes. Think about it, we're among hundreds, if not thousands of other people on the roadways. We can't control what they do. Most I see on the roadways are on their phones. This is far more dangerous than the Isle of Man.
