Nope, not today- If I were, I'd have included my name in the sign up list. Sign up procedure for staff is the same as with other licensed drivers.

I go to server, entered password and pressed request booking.. now it wont let me join for an hour? - is this normal?

Yes, that's the normal booking mode at work. We server admins set the parameters for it.

If your name apears on the server (you have booked successfully), then you can do anything else expect cancel your booking. You can run some practice, do a quickrace, shutdown your pc and go walk the dog, if you so desire.
Just be there during Qually, or before the race starts.
