The GTL club brings you another Special Endurance event. This time we drive the Mercury Cougar at Watkins Glen in a 80 minute race with pit stops.

The Enduro is back this time around its an all American combo, the Mercury Cougar is taking on the Watkins Glen circuit.

With its rise from ragged infancy in 1948 to its position as America's premier racing facility surely qualifies The Glen as an astounding and unlikely success story, which continues to be written over 60 years later. Law student Cameron Argetsinger dreamed of bringing European style competition to the village where he spent his summer vacations and he drew up a challenging course that encompassed asphalt, cement and dirt roads in and around the village of Watkins Glen. The dream became reality on October 2, 1948, "The day They stopped the trains", in the first post-World War II road race in the U.S. for five years, the top names in America sports car racing visited the small village and huge crowds came out to watch them race. since then the course have moved to a temporary location in 1953 until today, since its move the course have evolved to what it is today, according to the history page of theglen.comhttp://www.theglen.com/About-The-Glen/History-of-The-Glen/Track-History.aspx

Brief history lesson of the Mercury Cougar according to the wikipage: In 1967, renowned NASCAR race car builder Bud Moore campaigned Mercury Cougar in the Trans-Am Series with Ford Motor Company factory support, The team featured superstar-caliber drivers, such as Captain Dan Gurney, Parnelli Jones, Perter Revson, David Pearson and Ed Leslie. Factory support dried up towards the end of the season and the Cougars began to wear. Ultimately, Mercury lost the championship to ford by two points.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_Cougar

It's a tribute to both the historical course and car in America and the GTL club is holding an 80 minutes Endurance event. With a big thanks to Yves Larose in the setting up of this event. Details of the event can be found Here
