Race Department Formula One career season 2003

Welcome to the Formula One career season 2003 presented by RaceDepartment. This game is powered by Grand Prix 4 made by Geoff Crammond & MicroProse.

    Joining:
You can join whenever there's an empty seat (see the driver lineups further down), giving following information:

    Driver name: (forename) (name)
    Nationality:
    Sponsor type: (quali) (race)
    First buys:

    Waiting List:
    @rubaru

    Activity:
You should make a post after every GP. This can be only your buys for next round, but an additional small statement about the previous race would also be very welcome.
Making posts like "all money on xxx until I say other" is allowed, however you're still required to make a post after every race (e.g. in form of a post race comment). This is to prevent having ghost drivers in this series.
An exception to this is if you're on holiday, or have any other reason that prevents you from making buys. Then of course you're not required to post after the races, but please notify your absence beforehand.
If you fail to post between two races you'll get a warning. 4 warnings will see you removed from your race seat. Having only little money is no excuse for not posting. In case there's noone on the waiting list when someone is kicked, the driver keeps his seat, however he will no longer receive any sponsor rewards, and his performance will be set back to the base values until he shows up again.

    Helmets:
You're allowed to use your custom helmet. You'll find the things you need to paint one, as well as some short instructions, here: www.mediafire.com
Send me your painted helmets in .psd format via pm.
If you want, you can also use a helmet of a real driver. Just tell me which one in this case.
Liveries won't be updated, simply as that would take too much time.

    Race weekends:
The races will be simulated with GP4. Every GP has the qualifying and the race. The weather will be set accordingly to the real-life conditions of the respective GP.
Unless stated otherwise, 2 races are currently run per week, on Wednesday and Saturday/Sunday.

    Contracts:
Negotiations for new contracts will start with close to the end of a season. To receive a renewal from your current team, you should have
    a) reached the objective set by the team, or at least be very close to it, and
    b) have scored at least half of the points that have been necessary to reach the objective.
Even if you didn't match the objective, it doesn't necessarily mean that you won't receive a renewal offer.

The better you're placed in the driver standings, the better the offers that you'll receive will be. Past achievements will also play a role. When receiving an offer, you have 3 options: accept, decline, or wait. If you get an offer, and decide to wait, don't wait too long, else the team may approach other drivers. You'll be informed if a team withdraws its offer.

Each driver can contact 1 team (current one or another one), letting them know that they'd like to drive for them the following season. You do that in the contract pm I have with each of you. This doesn't guarantee you a seat for that team though. You should keep following things in mind. Don't approach a team that isn't within your range of objectives. If you barely scored any points it's not much use contacting a top team. If the current drivers of a team achieved the objective it's unlikely that the team will sack one of the drivers, you only have a chance if one of the drivers leaves himself.

The length of the contract is 1 year, always.

    Point System:
Will follow the point system used in the respective F1 season, currently
    1: 10 pts
    2: 8 pts
    3: 6 pts
    4: 5 pts
    5: 4 pts
    6: 3 pts
    7: 2pts
    8: 1pt

    Cash System & Rewards:
Newcomers start with 500$ + 50$ for every missed race in their pockets.
At the end of a season, every driver is allowed to carry over 1000$ plus the reward for the position in the final standings to the next season. You can decide yourself when you want to start saving money.
Left over money will be stored in the drivers bank account, which is limited to 1000$
After half of a season, the drivers in the bottom half of the standings are allowed to use 500$ of their bank account to make buys. This is to give them a chance to close up a bit to the top.
The WCC reward that the teams get can only be used for teambuys=car upgrades.

    Sponsors:
You can choose sponsors (one for quali, one for race) to gain extra money during a race weekend.
It's allowed to change one sponsor during the season, that means either quali or race, at the cost of the winnings. That means, that if for example you want to change from quali A to quali C, you have to pay 100$, or from race D to race B you have to pay 300$.

    Market Place:
Between the GPs, you can buy upgrades for car and/or driver with the earned sponsor money. During a GP, you can't make any buys. You're not allowed to buy (driver)upgrades for your teammate.

The skill & variation buys always have to be a multiple of 5/10. This is to make it easier for me to update the performance file.
BHP and cof values have to be whole numbers.
It is allowed to increase/decrease your team's cof/BHP values. This will only affect your own car, the teammate's values won't be increased/decreased.

Welcome back for the 2003 F1 career season!

As you might know, that year the point system changed from top 6 to top 8. As consequence, the race rewards have been adjusted, as well as one of the race sponsors.

The qualifying system changed as well that year, from 60min 12laps to 1lap per driver with one car at a time. I think that can be done that way in GP4, however I've yet to figure out the how part. If it's too troublesome I'll stick to the old format. As you might want to make your buys dependant on that, you're allowed to change them before the first race is hold. I'll announce in time which format will be used.

As previously mentioned in the old thread, the mod is yet to be done, so it might well be another 2 weeks before the first race.

@kedy89, why not move McLaren, Arrows and Toyota's numbers up to fill the 18/19 gap that doesn't need to be ignored anymore. It also still hays BWM.

Overlooked that, will do if I remember. Williams still trying hard to get 5000 cof by introducing BWM as new supplier.

Here is my new Ferrari helmet:

Design is based on Adrian Sutil's 2013 helmet, and the Marlboro "banners" were taken from the 2001 Ferrari helmet. Credit to josekast from GP4 Forever for the Sutil helmet and to GPG users Kizz, Iceman-Kimi, Panky or MSchumi for the Marlboro "banners".

I've actually replaced the grey & orange colours with the colours of the Danish flag. Also removed the TicTac logos from the visor.

  20. So I hope that both me and the Toyota team can have a better season than last time around, and this new points system is probably going to help us a lot.
