Check an available public server in AC, you'll see a "Request booking" button. Works in the same way, only the booking time span is an hour.

And yes, I would recommend joining the TeamSpeak channel. There's good information and nice people on there.

It doesn't matter if you are slow, it is a club race and it is meant for you to gain experience and have fun. You can also ask for help on TS etc. Also there are more people that aren't fast, so I am sure you will find someone matching your pace. And even if you don't, as long you had fun, it is not a bad thing being last ^^.
