Gear set before race start

At the start of a race, i can not put the car in gear before the start of the race. It doesn't recognize the gear setting until after the start making my starts late. Is there a way to change that?

I wait till the green flag drops and put in gear and FLOOR IT!!!

You need to enable penalty for jump start.
