Gear Ratio tutorial

I'm at the point where I feel my setup could use a bit more work. After getting comfortable with alignment, aero and suspension tuning, I want to dable in gear ratios in order to improve my time. Is there anyone who can point me in the right direction?

A detailed tutorial would be awesome but I wouldn't pass up on hints and tips since I know nothing about gear ratios.

1. Took me a bit to find it again, but here's a really convenient setup development tool. I used it a lot when I was new to creating race car setups:

2. The following website was made with rFactor in mind, but still it is a good setup development guide since the basics apply to any race car setup:

Hope it will help you too.:)
