Films about racers/racing

Discussion in 'Off Topic' started by Ondrej Kapal, Aug 13, 2010.

  1. Hi,
I am looking for some good films, about racers life or about racing, for example I know Days of Thunder with Tom Cruise, or one movie about motorcycle driver who is trying to make a world record in speed, which ends in accident (I think?) - especially this one I like, but I forgot its name, its actors, I'd like to ask if you know it?

So, some good films like this would be good to know :) or documents, I like documents, is there some especially great one?

    Thanks for any advice

Do you mean the movie which Anthony Hopkins was trying to break motorcycle speeding record on Nevada Desert ? Lol if yes i don't know that movie's name too :D

Also i can suggest Grand Prix 1966 quality movie, nice old f1 racing scenes and crashes.

And there is Driven of Slyvester Stallone, and that's rubbish imo.
  3. Offcourse Le Mans with Steve McQueen. :)
  4. There was a show hosted by Neil Crompton, I think it was called "The Great Race". History of Bathurst, from the 60s onwards. Great show, great footage.
I found a torrent a while back, but had to delete it due to lack of disk space.
  5. Omer, the movie with Anthony is World's Fastest Indian, I just found it by the Hopkin's biography :D And that GP looks great, I watched the trailer :) that Driven is about those Indy cars? Yes, it is rubbish :p

    Senad, this? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059243/

Thanks Ivo I wont miss it :)
  6. I know this is a long shot but... Does anyone know the name of the movie where in one clip someone hits the wall (or another driver), gets launched into the air and then the camera switches to a top down view and slow motion, all the other drivers are shooting past below him then I think he finally lands and another driver smashes into him (its one of main points in film, think its one of those films where its a dramatic recovery). 95% Sure it was open wheel;

Lol anyone that gets that needs a medal. Oh and not days of thunder or talledegga(?) nights or whatever that comedy was :p lol
  7. Likely to be Driven if it was over the top

  8. 0:58 ? :D

  9.
  10. Most of the classics have been listed: LeMans is my favorite, Grand Prix is great, Bobby Deerfield with Al Pacino, Winning with Paul Newman, IMHO most of the newer Hollywood stuff, as far as racing goes, is junk. If you are looking for funny, there is Stroker Ace with Burt Reynolds or Six Pack with Kenny Rogers (both stock car movies). There are documentaries everywhere: Fast Lane Summer is a favorite. It is late USA Can-am and early Danny Sullivan. There was a site, whose name escapes me, that used to list 1000's of motorsport videos. If I think of it, I'll post it up. Happy viewing.
Ahh, found it...www.dukevideo.com they have a continental and a US site.
  11. Thanks Ryan/Ondrej, shame its not a good film worth watching again. Watching that video I was like what the! Its just stupidly stupid :(

My favorite has to be Grand Prix. I have tried to get a hold of this one, but no luck. Anyone seen it?

I would also like to see this one: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062722/ I know there is an Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale in this movie.

One of the more silly movies I've bought is Heartbreakers because my favorite car is in there (Honda S2000).

    I like this one too:
  13. And what about something about Rally Monte Carlo?
  14. Ondrej - That Driven video is hilarious, so many things wrong with that movie...in fact, the whole movie is just wrong..on many levels.
  15. Nick you really dont have to say that, I am not fan of this movie, I never was :)
  16. I meant something from (about) this era
