Giedo van der Garde will make his official Formula One race debut at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne in March. The Dutch driver signed a contract with Caterham with support from his sponsor McGregor.

In recent years Van der Garde drove in the GP2 series and was already the official test driver for Caterham F1. In that capacity he drove many Friday practice sessions in 2012. At Caterham the Dutchman will team up with Charles Pic who was already his team mate in his early GP2 days at Addax.

Both 2012 pilots of Caterham haven't found a new seat yet. Kovalainen and Petrov are still without a drive for 2013 and the available places are getting less with only open positions at Force India and Marussia.
