We have sent our resident alien racer Dragos Haba to the Nürburgring Nordschleife this week to test the legendary Lotus 98T on the mother of all racing tracks.

The car of choice in this first episode of the One Car, One Lap in 4K series dates from 1985 and is best known for it's driver in Formula 1: three time world champion Ayrton Senna da Silva who drove a similar JPS styled Lotus-Renault in which he scored his two first victories in the pinnacle of motorsports.

As a tribute to the Brazilian inspiring master, Dragos would not settle before he posted a new world record lap with the classic open wheeler that puts out roughly 1,300 bhp. A blistering 05:25:017 lap was the result, beating the previous world record time by no less than seven seconds.

Now the benchmark is set it's your turn to show your pace and see if you can match or outpace the new lap record! Feel free to leave us a video response on our YouTube channel with your attempt!

The first season of the One Lap, One Car video-series will contain 10 videos in total published on YouTube twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday. If you would like to stay up-to-date and receive notifications of new stunning videos, make sure to subscribe to our channel.

Walk Racing took up the challenge with our own Guus Verver and did a 5.23.8, we don't have the video quality but we have the speed, expecting the reply from Dragos Haba and Roaring Pipes Maniacs.

Awww yeaaah :D that sounds interesting :D hopefully Dragos will be in for the challenge! :)

That looked mind numbingly fast! But after trying it, it's actually quite fun and much easier than it looks on a webpage haha. The car is literally on rails for most of the time.

You guys should mess around with setups more :p I'm far from alien but even with engine damage ON, matching 5:25 was not that hard (the 80-90% boost required to not blow the engine costs probably around 3-4s), i wouldn't be surprised if 5:15 or lower was possible... Right now you are probably using too much raw (wing) downforce on a high speed track, drop them down (i used 5-14), crank the suspension stiffness up and use that diffuser goodness! :)

Here is the 5:25 lap if anybody was interested:
(hope im not "spamming" this thread with this video if so ill remove it)

Well, watching these guys, I decided I HAD to try beat their times.......
Tweaking the car and getting myself pumped up for 3 hours, I was ready to go.
Managed an amazing 8:42.113.
Didn't post a video as I didn't want to embarrass anyone!!
Great driving guys, all of you.
Hope to see some more super laps in the future. You are all stars.

I'm sure I'm not as fast as you, but maybe, just maybe, I can beat your time if I try really hard. :p
Otherwise, watching those incredible alien laps made me wonder, could a 2004-2005 era F1 car with the fancy aero and about 900bhp engine could lap the Green hell faster?
What do you guys think? :)

Considering the 2005 cars are ~3-5 seconds faster per minute than Exos S1 (that is quite similar but down a little on power and aero efficiency), theoretically Green hell could be cleared in a 5minute flat at best with 2005 F1 cars. And that's in a "game" environment, where there are no fear of bumps, tyres that do not suffer from multiple problems real car would face, and without worry about car wear. So yeah a little bit faster but not by much.

Also one thing that makes it hard to do comparisons and is skewing the results hard is the current aerodynamic model of AC which, especially on bumpy Nords, make the car glued to the ground too much. That is the overall downforce levels are ok but as seen in the recent unfortunate GT crash in real life aero can suddenly let go for a split second, which while being simulated in a basic way in AC is still much more benign. At the F1 speeds these bumps could be even scarier, and so real laptimes would probably be 10 or even 20s slower than what we can see here, making the comparison really about which car could give more confidence to the driver and with that how aggresive setup could be :p.
