F1 2015 Buying this game may be a terrible mistake.

F1 2015 The Game (Codemasters)
Hi there people, before reading this message you should be aware that you may find disturbingly stupid grammatical mistakes throughout my post, as well as weird use of certain words in wrong contexts. The reason for that is that I'm french and despite doing my best to make the stuff i write comprehensible for everyone, i have truly no clue if what i'm saying is making sense for you or not :3

So, what i have to say is pretty simple and surely innapropriate since we're in codemasters realm. But please, you need to boycott this game. Not because I'm asking you to do so, but because you should be conscious of your consumers rights, and the pressure you can put on a company that seems at first glance untouchable, by just the simple act of not giving them your money.

The annual economic model they're using right now for this licence has no legitimate reasons to exist, each year they earn the jackpot for almost free develeppoment costs. The engine's the same, the textures are copy/pasted and the overall ergonomics is even getting worse every year. I may be a bit harsh there, but one thing is sure, there is no passion behind the work we are now used to see from this company.

You must realise you have the ability as a customer, to influence how the product you buy should look like. For years you and I have tolerated this traditionnal annual release, but now we have come to a point where the new content each year is so poor, that an amateur could have produced the next F1 game himself, with a simple upgrade/mods done on his free time.

If you're concerned about sparing 60 bucks, you should massively boycott this licence until they're forced to lower the price at a much reasonnable level. And they're obviously not going to like that, better quality content for less money ? Truly a nightmare for a marketing crew. But that's here you step in, here is a company that won't listen to your complains ? No big deal, just let it drown. That's something we actually have the power to do if the majority of us can be on the same wavelength.

If we weren't so tolerant about this kind of marketing scam, we could have had a new F1 game every 5 years (mainly for the physics, and the graphical update), with a low cost update that is released each year (for no more than 10 dollars, or this would be very greedy from their side), to stay updated with the new reglementations and cars' changes.

Let me just tell you, that the annual game release is not a fatality, unless we think of it as if it was the case. They're just pushing it because no one is contesting the legitimity of this model. So i you want to do a fair purchase the next time a F1 game get released, you have to put pressure on the editor/developpement team very soon, or we're going to stay stuck forever in this unfavorable situation, where one side is clearly abusing of the other.

Thx for reading mates. See ya.

I just hope that they at least have the VSC in, if the lack of Safety Car is real.

how can they get rid of safety car?
This better not be true.
Safety car was a good addition to the other games as it threw a bit of unpredictability into the races. Not only offline, but online too (it's how I won my first F1 2014 and first ever league race!)

If it's the virtual safety car I'd still be pissed actually, but it's still better than nothing. The VSC is not always used in RL - see Monaco. It was only used a bit at Monaco before the real SC came out and at Silverstone.

They got rid of career mode, alright, I didn't mind. They added much more new feautres to it because of that, and two season modes.
They got rid of co-op. No reason why, but not that bothered about it aswell.
They got rid of safety car?? It's like getting rid of something that is part of formula one racing. I do not see any reason for this move at all.

They advertise amongst other things, a completely new game engine built from the ground up with more intelligent AI, realistic tire wear (AI included) and more realistic handling model. I have to believe that they are being honest with us, which is a good start.

I do wish they had left the practice and full qualifying in for less than 100% race though.

I agree that the lack of flexibility with FP and Q in shorter race weekends is disappointing. On release this game seems a bit like a work in progress, with several things that need to be tweaked and included. The handling model though I think is good. Traction really is an issue this time and the inclusion of diff in the setups is good - though brake pressure and balancing has disappeared!!! I also like the tiered multiplayer, great idea.

Codemasters has done what all developers seem to do, especially in sports games, when a new generation of console is released. Features are stripped in favour of visuals. The first Madden on Xbox 360 was horrible, but it looked good. It seems that developers are going for the glitz rather than substance, but over time, with F1 2016 and 2017, things might change. But then, might be too late. The lack of a career mode is the killer for me. It could have been incredible, but, it's gone. MLB, NBA, Fifa all have some sort of career mode and to leave it out of F1 is foolish.

The whole game seems to be built around the hand held controller (except the new wheels, G29 for instance), so you have to spend a whole bunch of time figuring out how to navigate the menus. I don't have a RT, LT, RB, etc on my G27.

This is what happens when developers go down the console route. Pad users get games aimed at them and us PC users get second rate controller coding. Then the sim becomes a game. The story of our lives.
Thank god for some independent PC only devs.

It was actually easier for me than press button 5 (i own this thing for years still have no idea what the numbers mean).
The current system i quickly figured out that the colored button layout was lifted from the Xbox controller so yellow is the one on the top, green on the bottom, blue on the left, red on the right.
RB and LB are the paddles.

RT and LT are the leftmost red buttons on the gearbox btw, the only ones that were convoluted and hard to figure out for me.

Better than previous games in the series... but still mouse support and different UI would be much better.

I actually like this game, far far more than 2014 and if they fix the collision physics, penalties and AI crash-into-anyone behaviour it's the best F1 game I had since I joined F1 2012.

  • Tyre wear is working fine even for 25% races (unlike in the past) [yes, the balance between AI and player tyre wear is unfair]
  • speed feeling is better than ever, I race fast, I feel fast
  • car handling is really nice, traction, steering, braking it all feels much much better than before
  • AI difficulties are better balanced
  • best replays they ever had, it sometimes really feels like watching F1 (also because of the way the AI races)
  • realistic pit stop times with counter
  • much much better rev HUD
  • a bit more F1 presentation (though commentatory was still better F1 1998)
Yes, the game has no career, no sc, weird collision physics, unbalanced penalty system, weird chromatic aberration graphics, defect MP, some other bugs ...
but when it comes to being on the road in SP (which my main focus is [I never finished even one career year in 2012, 2013 or 2014 - spent too much time modding :D]) it really gives me intensive and exciting races (when you turn damage off, else ones touched, replay [which I never do, fatal errors happen, accidents happen, that's racing ... so I have still damage set to full :D]).

Even when being in the last lap, 3rd position and ending up wrecked and there are ~20 penalties for 7 drivers in a 5-lap-race, I can take it with humour and enjoy the replay.

Not worth the full price, but noone buys steam games at steam, right ;) ?

Registering on their forums may have been a terrible mistake... Perhaps more bugged than their game? :roflmao:
