Jenson Button says his McLaren team are in dire straits this season, admitting he doesn’t know if they’ll manage to secure a race win in 2013.
McLaren have endured a torrid start to the new campaign, culminating in
Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix where they failed to score a single point despite the addition of new parts to the MP4-28 model.
And with the British Grand Prix at Silverstone looming later this month, the team are desperate to rescue the situation before racing in front of a home crowd, but Button admits neither he or team-mate Sergio Perez are likely to be on the stop step of the podium at all this year.
‘No one knows the answer to that. It’s pointless for me to try and answer. I don’t know if we’re going to win a race this year. Going to Silverstone we’re looking to have a much better result than in Canada. We do have some parts on the car, which should help us. But it’s not going help us get to the front.’ he told

A season without a McLaren victory is almost unheard of, but Button has been brutally honest in his assessment of his side’s chances this year, highlighting just how much work the team need to do to get back on an even footing with the front runners.
But the 2009 world champion maintains he has faith in the McLaren engineers, but acknowledges any improvements won’t happen overnight.
‘I’m still in a great team, probably the best team to find your way out of a situation like this. It will happen. It just takes time. We have a lot of talented people in this team, people who will find answers, and find a way back to the front. And it will be so much sweeter when it happens.’
