Belgian GP to alternate with French GP from 2013

I'm not very familiar with the business side of F1, but I assume that the tracks pay for the chance to host a race, right?

Exactly.
This is why Turkey has been dropped from the calender.
They were paying $13m each year to host the race, and Bernie wanted to raise this to £26m.

It is rumoured that the new tracks (Abu Dhabi, Korea, India, USA, Russia) are paying upwards of £30m a year to have their venue on the calender.

Just I wish it was not Paul Ricard, man my eyes hurt from that track, I don't like it, and not just the stripes, I don't like the layout either, Magny Cours is far superior to it imo, though I heard there were problems getting to the track.

Agreed, this will be easier to swallow if it is shared with Magny-Cours as I like that track. Still a bit of a bad situation but if we can get another good track on the calender even if its every 2 years, we the fans can see that as a good compromise.
