Assetto Corsa Updated, Audi & Highlands Released

Kunos Simulazioni deploy build update 1.12 and add new free content in the form of the fictional Highlands track and the venerable Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2.

Today Kunos Simulazioni have deployed a substantial update to the PC version of Assetto Corsa, bringing a vast quantity of fixes and enhancements to the game as well as adding the recently teased Highlands track and the mighty Group B Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2 as free additions for the title.

Build 1.12 is one of the more substantial updates for Assetto Corsa in recent months and has a number of impressive highlights, not least of which is the update to the latest V10 tyres for all remaining cars not currently sporting the new technology. This is an improvement not to be underestimated as many seriously enjoyable cars have now been given the V10 treatment, something I've personally been waiting on for a quite some time.

Other notable highlights from today's update include the new inclusion of brake fade on the many vintage vehicles found in the game, a cryptic update to "cars handling and chassis balance and inertia" across all the cars in the sim and improved tyre wear and tyre graining algorithms, which now take into account the load operation for each and should make a significant difference to the way tyres behave under racing conditions.

In terms of the free content included in the build 1.12 update, players of the PC version of Assetto Corsa can now lay their hands on a brand new fictional race track and an incredibly successful rally car from back in the era when danger was all part of the spectacle of Group B rally.

AUDI QUATTRO S1 E2
Introduced back in 1984, the Audi Sport quattro S1 E2 revolutionized rallying. Just like the other manufacturers, Audi used the lenient homologation requirements to create a new rally car. All the car maker needed for homologation was a production run of a mere 200 cars.
Blomqvist's spectacular, sideways driving style suited the Sport quattro perfectly. By flicking the tail out, the Swede overcame the natural understeer of the nose-heavy Audi. He won five of the twelve rounds and was crowned the 1984 World Champion. Mikkola and Roehrl also won a round, which was enough to clinch the constructor's trophy.

HIGHLANDS LAYOUTS

Highlands - The original layout, 8152 meters long, filled with fast flowing path with curves and several jumps.

Highlands Long - An extension of the original layout, 12191 meters long and has all the characteristics of the original layout. This layout features some slower curves, a fast series of left and right turns, after a passage between rocks and the distinctive 3km long "Cabhag straight"

Highlands Drift - A configuration born to create long powerslides with supercars and hypercars. At 5167 meters long, this layout features long, flat and smooth curves, perfect for holding a constant power slide. The "tower lùb", guards the surroundings at the top of the hill.

Highlands Short - The shortest configuration, only 1714 meters, but based entirely inside the city. Incredibly intense and requires the concentration of a pro.

All four layouts share the same starting positions and pit lane, as well as the first corner and final 2 corners

I can't really slide with the new audi. Am i doing something wrong? There's a ton of understeer and even when i try to let her drift, it just get control on her own (no aids). Btw, am i the only one that appreciate the sound of this car?
 
Little bit too wide for my taste, but I do enjoy it anyway. The thing I don’t like (same for BCC track) are the billboards, they just don’t fit on the countryside (same for the desert). I would happily pay for add free version ;-)
It doesn't fit the country side but it fits the racing theme event. Is a race organized in the town, so in a way it makes sense for all the spectacle.

Nice new car thanks Kunos, as for the track it's certainly better than BCC. Nice graphics, country side and road 'feel' is excellent. The layout is not the best. Road markings that are plain wrong for a 'real' road. Unrealistic junctions where roads just merge into another is something that I really hate. All in all a good effort but I think they have missed a trick again like BCC.
It doesn't matter though, because is a fantasy layout and every road on the side is a closed road with barriers that goes nowhere. Is not an open world map where they're recreating real life road system. So with that in mind is why I'm saying it doesn't matter.
 
I'm not all that fussed about the new Audi (don't hurt me!) but I'm enjoying the new track. I suppose it could be considered "wide", but it's supposed to be real roads. "A" roads like those depicted really are like that throughout the UK. If you want narrow, you could always try sticking to the left lane for the whole lap! ;) I agree with what someone said about the advertising boards though. Sure, there would likely be advertising if an official street race was set up, but it definitely ruins the feeling of being out for a Sunday cruise in your supercar. :unsure:

Biggest thing for me though was every car now being on the latest tyre model. Been a long time coming so glad it's finally happened. :thumbsup:
 
I guess I'm the few guys who don't actually dislike BCC... maybe I spent too much time in NFS3 when I was young.

No, you're not the only one. BCC is certainly better than Circuit de Catalunya and I would prefere that track any day in comparison to some of the Tilkedromes. Haven't tested the update yet but will give it a shot.
 
Don't like the track (layouts)..too wide for my taste.
The Audi is a superb car, but i think it would be better in a rally, or at least loose-surface Sim like Dirt Rally or Project Cars 2....

The real deal for me is the Tyre Model V10 for every car. :inlove::inlove:
Pre-V10 i didn't like the FFB from AC too much, but with V10 and some tweaking in the files it's just superb...jumped up from last to first in my personal FFB ladder :)
And now every frickin car has it...brilliant :)
What tweaks do you use, and which wheel? Just curious and always wanting to learn :)
 
It will be the 3rd news post where I will complain about Porsche RSR 2017 realese... GUYS WHERE IS THIS CAR???

Thanks to Kunos for making this cool rally car (one of my favorite, just look at her shape and bodykit!) but, the only place where this game have gravel, or sand, is traps to slow down cars that are off-track... I am not saying that this car is bad, or useless, I am just saying that its kinda wrong title... And I probably need to drive this beast on moded rally tracks downloaded from RD.

I like that Porsche Cup car now have LEDs that glowing red when one of the wheel is locked on braking or just losing grip.
I like that after race you can do another lap and even drive in the pits by yourself.
I like that "top screen messages" now says when race leader is on his last lap, when race is finised and when you still can show better time in qual. before crossing finish for the last time after end of the qual.

I feel like something is changed in the FFB and in better way...

It was bad idea to write a "review" BEFORE reading changelog from the top to the buttom, so "it is what it is". Maybe I will make changes in my message after doing that.

OVERALL IMPRESSION - GOOD.
 
Instead of the Audi and the track, I wanted to try the v10 and if it made a big difference. So I went for the 190E DTM which I ran yesterday so I had somewhat good feeling for it on the old tires. I would say it's much more enjoyable to me now. It's a lot less understeery, and much more alive (same setup). Obviously I have no clue how the real car behaves, but this fits my preconceptions of what a race car would handle much better. Noticed I can drive (rotate) a bit more with my feet as well and have a better feeling for the brakes (trail braking and lock-ups - no load cell).

I would say it feels much more like R3E's version now (which I've spend a lot of time with), does that mean that R3E had it "right" before AC ? I would like your thoughts.
