Are there any "Default Add-on" tracks?

All, again I'd like to thank you all for participating in the feedback and dicussions I'm throwing out at you.

Hopefully you can all see where these discussions, questions, requests for feedback are leading - hopefully to better and more satisfying events.

There were some excellent discussions and feedback in the "GTL events - too complicated?" thread, causing me to get some new perspectives and guidelines for events in general.

    1. Sprint nights should be max 4 to min 3 events (from Practice (P) start to Race (R) chequered flag = approx 30-40 mins of which the actual race should be about 50%). At least 1 default track should always appear in a Sprint Night for familiarity's sake if there are any "New to Club" (NTC) tracks included.

    2. Non-sprint nights - Bias the P & Q total length to a longer P and a shorter Q session. 3 event nights should be on familiar tracks with single cars, or 1 track and 3 cars. 2 track event nights can be single or multi car. If the track is NTC, limit it to single track multi car events, and extend the Practice length for familiarity.

    3. Stay with the Mixture of classes / multicar / single car as is - tailor the events to the cars as discussed in (1) & (2).

    4. Generally blend in default tracks with both the familiar 3rd party tracks and NTC tracks as discussed in (1) & (2).

    5. COTM - blend the events, but keep the emphasis on at least one longer duration race.

    6. Special events - Generally welcome, but need longer notification and schedule planning. Avoid clashes with any RD League events.

I want to address points 1, 2 & 4 specifically in this thread.

While I think we can all agree that the default tracks in GTL are good, some even great, they are limited in their scope a little. For instance,

    1. There are quite a few approx <=1:00 length tracks, and quite a few >=2:00 laps and ony a few in the middle, circa 1:30 laps (Dijon, Donington, Mondello)
    2. There aren't that many default tracks with extreme gradient changes (Dijon, Spa)
    3. There aren't that many tracks with long enough straights for the faster cars to fully open their legs. (Dijon, Spa, Nurb GP)

To allow me to get balanced events - balanced in the aspects of event length / lapcounts, track type, car choice etc. - what (if any) add-on tracks that we use are now so familiar to us and widespread enough that they can almost be described as "Core Add-ons" or "Default Add-ons"?

    I'm thinking of tracks like:-

    Cadwell Park
    Watkins Glen etc.

Basically, tracks where we have held multiple events, tracks appearing on multiple sims and which are now as familiar to us as the default tracks, and which nearly all of us has.

Once a consensus has been achieved in this thread from (hopefully) your numerous responses, I'll add the list of "Core Add-on" tracks to the list in the Sticky thread, and use them to balance the events the same way as I would use the SimBin default tracks.

There's no limit to the number of tracks you can suggest here.

    Core Add-on tracks
    Watkins Glen
    Cadwell Park
    Mid Ohio
  2. Maybe:

Maybe not a whole heap of events run on them, but they are easy and short enough for new members to get a hang of while the older blokes have some close racing....

Of those two, I'd put Lakeside in definitely, but Mallala's open to discussion, and that alone would keep it as a normal Add-on status.

ie if any tracks warrant even a pause for thought, it doesn't go on the "Default" list.

Off the top of my head:

Lakeside for sure, very easy to learn and remember.
Mid Ohio, great track and most of us must have raced it in other sims.
    Watkins Glen, Goodwood for sure.
For another Aussie track, Melbourne should be well known from older sims.

If I think of some others, I'll add them later.

Ok - if there's a consensus of opinion about tracks, I'll add them to the list.

This will be an ongoing process, so if we have another few events somewhere like, say, Lime Rock or Birmingham, and everyone likes them, they can be suggested and added to the list later on.

  6. I would definitely say Watkins and Cadwell
I'd like to say limerock mountain as it's been run in a couple of GTL events (the other one was the league test ;)) and it's been popular in evo as well
  7. Mid Ohio (chicane and non-chicaned)

    Updated top post -

@ Steve - I think Le Mans is a bit specialised for it to become a default track, tbh, but Mid Ohio's in.

@ Croucher - Lime Rock Mountain - if it gets enough mentions that'll get in too.

I think the 5 tracks in your post are a good choice,
    The tracks I have in mind : Crystal Palace,Kyalami 79, Zandvoort 67.

You now I like the old tracks (spirit of the age)
    and don't forget St.Jovite

  10. I was going to say zandvoort until I remembered that sadly we're not allowed to run it anymore as it's a default GPL track

Yeah :( same with Kyalami, unfort.
  12. one of the best add on tracks in my view is muggelo. i would love to have a race there. and also misano.
  13. I'm assuming this thread will be an on-going thing Stu?
Just cos I'm sure in 3 months or so there will be a few more tracks we could add to the list...

@ Glenn - Yes mate, ongoing. Once we get familiarised with tracks, ones that get a pretty much unanimous thumbs up, we can add those to the "Core Add-ons" list.

@ Amir - I will have a look at both of those tracks, but they will not be added to this core list of add-ons until we've raced them a few times (if legal) and had some feedback between ourselves to decide how they rate.
  15. why not Oran Park or Amaroo Park instead of Mallala?

Oran Park is, as I understand it, an illegal conversion of a Codemasters track.

Amaroo is more likely to become a core add-on, as we've run it once, it was very good fun, and we're running it again this coming Saturday.

Mallala we've only used once, it's not on the list yet.

How about Sachsenring. One of my favourites and I think we've ran it many times.
  18. Suzuka?

Sachsenring is a possibility, maybe after our next visit

Suzuka I know has problems in Evo - we would need to run it a couple of times in GTL to be sure
  20. Suzuka in the Skylines... Could you use anything else? :laugh2:
