A1GP Indonesia cancelled

A1GP World Cup of Motorsport has been forced to accept round five of its 2008/09 season, which was due to take place on 6-8 February 2009 at Lippo Village, Indonesia, can no longer go ahead. This follows notification this morning from the FIA that certain aspects of the track construction project, undertaken by the local promoter and organisers of the event, have failed to meet the requisite completion deadlines. As a result, the FIA is not able to issue the necessary circuit licence on time for the event to proceed, and has removed the event entry from its International Series calendar.

This information was given to A1GP CEO, Pete da Silva, today and his comment was: “Obviously it is extremely disappointing for all concerned and not the news any of us wanted. The bottom line is, for safety reasons, A1GP cannot race on a circuit that does not meet or has not received the necessary licence from the FIA, so we have no other option but to cancel all plans to bring the A1GP show to Indonesia in three weeks’ time”.

The series will now go from next week’s event, A1GP Taupo, New Zealand, to A1GP Gauteng, South Africa, which is on 20-22 February. A1GP do not plan to run the Indonesian event at a later date in Season Four, but may consider an event in Season Five.

A1GP.com is launching A1GP.com Dashboard, a new live GPS-style mapping and telemetry system to enhance fans’ viewing of races for the rest of the season.

While watching the live television coverage of qualifying and races, fans will now be able to access a host of new information including real-time position maps, detailing the exact location of every race car on track, along with a live feed of dashboard information from every A1GP nation’s car.

Thanks to the new technology in the new A1GP Powered by Ferrari car, a fan can select to view any of the teams’ real-time steering wheel data, including speed, throttle pressure, G-Force, gear and how many applications of the crucial PowerBoost button they have left.

Great disappointment for us all, Indonesians.

At first place, we've thought that the project would be finished in time. But because of the incoming monsoon season in January, that slows the track surfacing operation which made the track will not be finished in time

With all respect but the monsoon indonesia has every year, that is why this looks all so very amateuristic. If an organisation decides to organise something like this, it should be finished.

But this is what i dont understand of A1GP. They deliver a premium racing series, but cooperate with local organisations that simply arent ready. You see that every weekend so far.

All those tracks and their organisations should have been tested years ago with a B-series first.

Imho actions like this will cause A1GP not to be taking serious, which is a shame because it has so much potential

Shame that with the pistop something went wrong for robert, a podium should have been possible again.

Still i find it quite hard to understand why netherlands misses some speed al the time, still remember wen nico hulkenberg jumped into the german car and suddely that car was in p1. Wenn his teammates drove it the werent in the top.

Might be going to far to blame the drivers only but looks like every race something goes wrong for the dutchies

A1GP online coverage is free, and not bad quality. Myself and my dad use it as the satellite doesn't usually pick up the foreign channels, and TV3 doesn't effectively use it's A1GP licence.

A1GP Simulator - Powered by rFactor Pro

Found this on story on VirtualR.net about how A1GP drivers and engineers are using a simulator which is based on rFactor Pro.

Back in November when we learned about rFactor Pro, many people could not get a full idea what this enriched version of rFactor aimed at teams and professionals was for. A high profile project using the software has recently made the headlines though - The official A1GP simulator.
Located in Modena, the simulator built by All In Sports uses rFactor Pro as confirmed in a recent article in Autosport magazine. The simulator was built to give A1 GP drivers valuable testing time with the new Ferrari-built A1GP car.
The simulator helps engineers get valuable data as all aspects of the real A1GP car are simulated, including a very complex tire model and full simulation of the Ferrari V8-engine as well as the Magneti-Marelli electronics system.
Along with the software simulations, drivers instantly feel at home in the simulator as it’s an exact replica of the real car, including the $10.000 steering wheel. The A1GP drivers have found the simulator very helpful with getting a grip on the new car as current A1GP champion Neel Jani explains:
I liked it a lot. You can learn all the electronics and all the buttons on the steering wheel, which is particularly good for rookie drivers who come from series without electronics on the steering wheel. It’s definitely a good thing to do before getting in the car for the first time. For all drivers it’s a must so you know where everything is before you get in the car without the risk of damaging anything!”
Even though the simulator is a very complex professional tool for professional drivers & engineers, it was built costing much less than other simulators like those used by big Formula One outfits - Savings that were helped by using a proven software-base!
