This turned out to be my personal best too. I had a tough time breaking the 1:14.0 barrier (doing several 14.0s actually) to match my personal best from a week ago, in practice, of 13.6, for today's CART 1998 league at Phoenix Racing Club. Going into qualifying I didn't know what to expect as another Brazilian was blinding fast with a more powerful engine. Well, I did a lap but was unhappy with last sector. I took out all the fuel and had just enough for one flying lap. I went out luckily into a clear track and everything seemed to connect well as I pushed while avoiding the dodgy curbs. I snatched pole by .047s with a 1:13.438 onboard my Player's Forsythe, in the lovely Reynard chassis with the not-as-lovely Mercedes engine.
