It pretty much looks like my problems here:

were caused buy above mentioned optical encoder failure. See also link below:

I did not try Rupe's link about Dave's tip above because it is the same problem whether I plug it into PC or PS3: plug the USB cable -> wheel starts to calibrate, turns to very right until reaches lock, starts turning left until reaches lock - and stucks there - no centering. It tries to calibrate three times and then gives up, power led is blinking in shifter button panel. Logitech profiler is not reading any steering wheel movements (gas, brake and clutch working though). Just for information if anyone faces similar symptoms...

A little tip, If your encoder is cracked - simply apply super glue on the metal axis let it dry and its fixed. Mine has been mint ever since
