RD iRacing Driver Number Registrations (Please Read First Post)

As you will no doubt be aware by now that iRacing now allows members to choose a preferred number for their car. This can be done by clicking on the 'myRACING' link in the main menu on the official member site then selecting 'Customize Car(s)' in the drop down menu and then under the number font selection for each car is a text entry to enter your preferred racing number (two digits). For future RD events we will support this feature so we are now asking drivers who have taken part in previous events and leagues to submit their chosen number if they have one.

Numbers 1, 2, and 3 will be reserved for use in RD events by the top three finishers in an RD league series starting with the top three championship drivers in the Star Mazda league. If those drivers choose to stick with their own chosen number then numbers 1,2 or 3 will remain un-used. Once a new series finishes then the previous seasons drivers holding the numbers 1,2 or 3 who have not finished in the top three places in the championship will relinquish those numbers.

Please show consideration to your other RaceDepartment members, if you don't wish to use a preferred number of don't intend on taking part in future events please do not reserve a number. Should we feel a driver has become inactive as a racing club member that drivers number may be released for other active drivers to choose for their car, we will make every effort to contact a driver before we do this.

Are drivers aware that these numbers are for reserving for RD iRacing League/Club races and not just somewhere to post your preferred number that you use in iRacing?

It's just a personal curiosity, as going by the numbers reserved, we have a multitude of drivers here at RD running iRacing yet we still seem to be struggling getting folks to commit to league/club races and stick with it to the end.

I will add here I have bailed out of both the MX-5 and Skip Barber series, with 1 and 2 races left respectively, but this is purely down to hardware issues with the wheel/pedals. Once I have a fully functional setup again, like I'm sure the regulars are aware, I'll be there as regular as clockwork.

Sorry for the off topic mini-rant, but I can't understand why we apparently have so many RD iRacers, yet rarely see a large majority of them at scheduled RD races.

Can't speak for others, but I've just signed up for iRacing and would like to get involved.

surelly we should do a revision and remove drivers which were not active in last two seasons, Daz

maybe after we finish Skip and MX5 seasons?

Going on the current turnouts, we will only need about 20 numbers reserved, lol.

Probably is a good idea to refresh it though, as I'm sure whilst there are guys like Kris who just don't have the content being used or like Mike who have recently signed up, we have a large number who have just reserved the number because it's their preferred number on iRacing.

Here's an idea.

It might be a little more admin work but maybe we just get drivers to register their number when they sign up for a league in future (allocated on 1st come 1st served in cases where same number requested), then at least we are only having to worry about numbers for drivers who are actually interested in particular series. With more or less 100 numbers to go at, if we have series where we have say 30 entry spots, if someone signs up and the number is already taken they have plenty of choice to pick another.

Also, some folks may like to use the number of their favourite driver in a particular series so if we did a NASCAR league, someone may like to run #14 but in an INDYCAR league they may prefer to run #33. Therefore, allowing number reservation per league series may be the way to go.

The league spreadsheets I've done in the past can be easily tweaked to include car numbers.

In its present state, someone signs up and there is less than 10 numbers left free, of which many that have already been taken may actually be inactive anyway. So presently it's not really a preferred number selection, but a take what's left selection.

Are we not going to do away with the preferred numbers and just have them for appropriate leagues as and when folks sign up as I proposed in post #165?

For example, I am not participating in the proposed 2012 multi-class season so my preferred number, which is #19, should become available for that series, should anyone want to use it. I think for 2012 we should just have league specific preferred numbers. Maybe those that already have a number get their number reserved, but if they are not signing up for a league then their number becomes available for that particular league.

Seems a waste someone bagging a number (just because they run it on iRacing) who may not then race in any RD races for whatever reason, thus denying someone else having it.

The sheet must now have almost 100 numbers reserved, but I will predict that a large proportion of the names on that sheet do not run in any RD leagues in 2012 making their number reservation a complete waste of time.

Just my New Years Eve two-penneth, lol.
