Rally Club - New Event Proposals

Fernando Agapito

RDRC S4 Overall Champion
Hey Warren I have a suggestion, with Roy's choice of event, how about we do a winner's choice stages for the next rally :D. Just like in WRC qualifying event where the fastest driver chooses his starting position, but we'll just make it stages here in the club, you know just for a change. Just a suggestion :)

Thanks Fernando, I'm always happy to receive ideas for future Club rallys.
I'm not sure if you are proposing this as a one off Rally, occasional Rallys, or for on-going Rallys.

I've always had a policy of being open to proposals for new Club Rallys from ALL drivers, and in most cases I have included these proposals (eg. Roy has submitted many and we have used them). Similarly I have used others as well.
So, I have a preference for allowing ANYONE to have their proposals adopted, not just winners / elite drivers.

A couple of things might concern me a bit with this proposal (if we were to use it for all events):
1. The stages (or full Rallys) could become controlled by the "elite" drivers, with the winner continually picking their favourite stages to help maintain the winning privilege.
2. I'd prefer to see Rallys planned with the car choice and stages combined, if only the stages are picked by the winner, they may not match well with the car chosen by someone else.
3. We would need to have the new rally design submitted almost immediately after the previous rally winner is named. It takes us time right now to get banners made, test stages / cars, and event details drawn up.
4. The primary aim of the rally Club has always been to help keep lots of variety, variation in cars, stages, weather, etc, and to help introduce new drivers into RBR and RD Rallying. The focus is always more on having fun, and exploring new content in RSRBR, rather than on just winning, I wouldn't like to see that change. As explained previously, the RDRC is for the more serious competitive Rallying, the Rally Club should be maintained as something different.

However, having explained those concerns, I'm sure we could find ways to make your suggestion work, provided the "winners" fit in with the Club aims. I'll listen to what the majority want, and I'd love to have suggestions from anyone for future events. I know my events probably get stale after a while.

As an "occasional" event, sounds like a good idea . ;) Is that what you mean?

My proposal was for on-going Rallys but it will be for a limited period only and we could do it occasionally, here's my ideas:

For example, we could start it after RDRC round 1, the next 3 club events on that weeks would be the qualifying event for winner's choice rally (normal random events that are still choosen by you). Rally winner(s) of each event can create his own custom event (Car and Stages like Roy's Frosbite Run) and it will be scheduled for the next 3 rally club events after RDRC round 2, so that would deal with your concern #3. The cycle starts again after RDRC round 3, and that would deal with your concern #1, 2, 4 since it will be a normal random events again.

Thanks Fernando. I'm not sure it totally deals with my concerns #1 and 4, but I guess that we would soon see once we tried it.

Personally, I'd rather see ANY driver submitting Rally plans, but I'm happy to give this a go on a trial basis. If we saw "elite" drivers "looking after their own interests", then it would cease immediately. ;)

My idea was based on the WRC starting position qualifying event so its the winner who gets to choose, but yeah an event from any club driver is great.

Thanks for considering my proposal :)

I like the idea of competitors making an admin contribution to the Club Rallies but I share Warren's concerns about the person choosing the event stages/cars to their own liking or strengths. How about when you post a new event choose a number and the person who finishes in that spot has to make the selections for the next or a subsequent rally - or make it so the lower finishers get to choose the stages - that would perhaps help their progress up the ladder

Realistically, I'm not sure everyone would want the responsibility of choosing events, so either way it would be voluntary.
Just one more reminder, I already have a system that allows anyone to submit Rallys, but I don't get flooded with proposals.
This process would still be available for events not included in this plan.

I thought it too, that would be the big concern about the whole plan. Well it's up to you warren, just sharing my idea :D

I've created a new Sticky thread within the Rally Club Forum, to allow us to propose and discuss ideas / suggestions for future Rally Club Events.

We are very happy to receive suggestions, or even better, full plans for an event (cars, stages, surfaces, weather, team events, etc), and all ideas will be considered and implemented where possible and agreed.
Alternatively, you can send your ideas to Senad or myself and they will still be considered.

I've extracted the most recent discussion on a proposal from Fernando (from the Event thread Roy's Frostbite Run), so that it doesn't get lost. We also welcome any further input into this idea.

Sorry about the messy merge, I'm still learning about the new Forum Software.

Hey Warren how about creating an event same with the occasional Group N races where you get points, but for individual points only and let's make the final stage a Power Stage where the top 3 finishers gets additional bonus points (a stage with a combination of twisty and long stretch roads maybe so it would be fair for everyone). And same with the Group N Rally there's two podiums, one for the over all time and the other is points.

2CV event!

Actually, Roy and I have talked about a novelty event in the 2CV.
The trick is finding the right Stages, I've tested it on some stages and it can hardly climb some of the hills, lol.
Also, we might have to do something about the penalty times (if somebody actually managed to crash / wreck it  ), the clean stage times in this one would be slower than the default penalty times in some cases.

It's not out of the question to use it though, just needs some research to find what might work with it. Suggestions after testing are welcome. ;)

How about using the GT10 porche 911 on some french tarmac stages. You robbed a bank and used the money to buy 911 and now you have to run to Switzerland before the police catch you. :)

Or maybe, some drivers grabbed the Nissan 350Z parked beside the Porsche and tried to race the Porsche to Switzerland?
Anyone compared both cars in the GT10 pack, are they comparable so we can use both?

Nissan is a bit weird from my testing, put it in neutral and rev full and the revs don't come down, it also felt a bit slower and easier to drive than the porsche. I only ran each through Joux Plane once though.

The Porsche have "wrong" physics, with adjusted 4WD rather than the reversed FWD-physics. This means that it has some drive on the front wheels, since a 4WD never can cut off the front wheel drive 100%. If that makes sense :p

I haven't done any back to back testing but the British rally championship ran A7K cars against N4 at the end of the ninties. Then the A7K cars were quicker, but time and the game might have made them a little more even. A selection of tarmac and gravel to make sure the 2WD and 4WD don't have an advantage.

OH OH, just remembered. If the Evo III lancer will come out in the next update a 1995 rematch would be GREAT. Escort Cos vs Celica vs 95 Impreza vs EVO3. Only eight rounds in the 95 WRC, maybe a stage for each round;)
