    Hi all,

I'm a total newbie to all this! At 32 years old I recently purchased my first ever games console - a PS3 + Logitech G27 steering wheel + EARL RS2 steering wheel stand + F1 2010.

Whilst playing the F1 game is awesome - I'm wanting to get into other types of sim racing. I recently watched the Nicolas Hamilton tv programme and was interested to know what type of sim games he plays? (I hear he races a Seat Leon in the game in question!). The reason I ask is because I'm wanting to purchase some more games (not F1) that ideally have British tracks (i.e. Snetterton, Brands Hatch, Oulton Park etc. Basically, games where tracks are accurate and realistic.

I'd also be interested to hear any other recommendations.

    Thanks

PS3 = Gran Turismo 5, DiRT 3, Grid. These are all great games!

PC = rFactor! Although it's for the PC, is fantastic!
You can drive any car (if mod is available) on any track (if available) in the world!
Oulton, Brands, Silverstone, Donington, Snetterton, Rockingham are all available to install.

rFactor, if you can get a PC. Game Stock Car is apparently very good if you like Stock Cars(Brazilian tracks and drivers with Chev's/Peugot's).

Also, Race 07/Race On for touring cars.

Basically, nothing on Playstation 2/3 comes close to the above in terms of realism.

I know this doesn't really answer your question, but for sims PC is the way to go unfortunately.

Thanks Guys, although I'm gutted if I've now got to buy a powerful pc too. I initially got F1 2011 on my laptop - like an idiot thinking it would run ok - my laptop didn't stand a chance!

It sounds like the game that Nicolas Hamilton was playing must be rfactor!?

    Oh well...

Welcome to RD sonofkath! yes you need a really powerful laptop to run F1 2011, even my DV7 will not run F1 2011 at it's full potential:(.

I run Race on both my laptops, a HP G 60 and DV7 and they do fine. What are your specs on your laptop?

Most older laptops should handle rfactor or race 07. And with these games you can pretty much download any car you want and drive it on any track you want in the world :) If you want online competitive racing, iracing is good, though expensive, and looks and feels awesome. However, that may struggle on the laptop.

try race 07, its a good entry point to these hardcore sims. Lots of options, good AI etc. Thats how I made it into sim racing!

    Hey Josh,

Thanks for your post - I really appreciate it. I never realised it was such a minefield!

I wish I'd saved my money on a PS3 and put it towards a PC. I've got the Logitech G27 with clutch and gearstick. Which of the games out there (or the one's you've mentioned) can I use the clutch and gearstick with? I'm wanting to be able to play about with functions like heel and toe etc.

    Cheers

Most games allow this. iracing, Race 07, GTR 2, rfactor, and a lot of the others as well :)

PS3 isnt bad, theres a lot of games that are good. And GT is fun to play with a wheel :)

Well hey guys! I'm new to sim racing and equipment. I was recommended to this forum by a member on the forum I frequent (overclock.net).

Well A bit of an introduction: I'm a college student, works part time. That's all there really is to say about me.
My hobbies: PC hardware (every aspect) and Audiophile equipment. And in the future, cars, and car modding.

Right now I'm still deciding on what equipment to pickup. I'm really looking forward to getting to know everyone here. Thanks for the opportunity guys! And good to meet everyone here :)

Hello everyone!! I have recently discovered Formula RacingSim and love it! I'm just trying to find a way to get involved somehow either by creating a team or racing myself. I feel like i'd need a bit more experience to be a driver here but i'm hoping some practice should help. Anyway we'll see what happens...

Hi guys, I'm Fabian living in the UK. I've been racing sims since I was a teenager on Papyrus classic IndyCar as well Nascar 2, Sports Car GT and of course the mighty GPL (Breaking 8.45 on the 'ring in a Ferrari will forever live in my mind).
After a sabatical from racing after the tragic death of my MOMO, I've bought myself a Thrustmaster F430 wheel and dived into Race 07, Kart Racing Pro and gone back to GPL (67 & 69 mod). Also picked up RBR, but having a torrid time getting the force feedback to work.
Anyway, great site, very useful resource, cheers guys!
