How to calibrate PS2 controller with Radioshack USB adapter?

Hey everyone this racing community looks great. First let me start by saying i'm fairly experienced with modding game files using the NHL2004 rebuilt mods. But I seem to be having a basic problem of configuring my controls in Racer

Issue:
When I downloaded the free Racer game sim I can't figure our how to calibrate a PS2 controller with Radioshack USB adapter in this game...

How do you do it? I also have a Logitech Ruble Pad controller which looks the same. Either one would be fine to use but I don't understand how to set the values for acceleration... braking, turn left/right, shift up/down ect...

I went into game option:
Under (Profile 3) I pressed all my buttons moved the joysticks around... I could see the x and y axis values moving and changing... I pressed save and nothing happened.

I still don't understand... do I need to set up a notepad file in the data->control->presets folder or what? How do I do this? How do I set up which button accelerates and turn ect...?
