Andrew I have it pre-ordered and am planning the day off from work for that day to get to grips with it. Would probably be interested in testing the online play as well so if we are both online lets give it a go.... even if it's just the two of us!!

    Dear Guy-Adam.
A bunch of drivers want a no assists league. I am one of them so yes I like those rules-Guilty. I am helping organise a league that I like the rules of-Guilty.
I have made very clear for months that I wanted to have a no assists League and even organised the Pro-Am to give drivers experience of no assists. again Guilty of promoting the idea.
The Auto Gears however is not for me so wrong on that one.
Can we put the character assisinations to bed now?

Wow, things have gotten a little petty in here! Has it not been suggested to have a separate league for people who would like certain assists on?

Personally, I love the idea of no assists but equal cars; we aren't competing professionals, so there's no real benefit to having a car performance advantage and it then becomes all about individual skill and consistency. And strategy calls, obviously!

I only very recently switched to manual gears and it's improved my enjoyment of the game no end, and in all honesty I find it easier. Once you have adjusted to hitting that gear change button when you hear it you're fine, and assuming you're not using braking assists (which would be crazy, frankly!) then you just need to remember your gear as well as brake point. It's genuinely much more enjoyable and, as I think David said a while back, it makes you much more consistent as you are making more decisions about your speed etc.

David keep up the good work mate... I think essentially we all want the same thing ie no assists and the issue of manual or auto gears is obviously a big part of this and some are more against allowing auto than others. Like you I feel that if the inclusion of manual only gears were to stop people from taking part it would not be a good thing as I am not sure we can field a full grid of manual gear drivers (of course I could be wrong in that, we'll just have to see). However, I do think we need some clarification regarding whether RD fully accept auto gears in their official leagues . Brams reply to you was a little ambiguous in this respect and I am still uncertain whether auto gears are allowed for anyone that wants them or just those that physically need them. This part of his reply is the ambiguous part I am referring to:-

So kudos to the WDC drivers if they all drive without. Autogears we always allow for those who need it (handicapt drivers for example cannot manually shift most of the times).

Obviously as a manual gears guy I would prefer everyone to be doing the same for complete equality but I would not want anyone to feel they could not take part because of that so am happy for auto to be part of the league. We just need to be sure that this is acceptable before going ahead with it as I have already taken part in a league that halfway through the season RD decided could not be incuded in their forums and would not like the same to happen here.

Hope that clarifies my position anyway.... I am very appreciative of all the work you, Dylan and Richard do to allow us to take part in such a friendly and competive league so hope any issues that have arisen in the last day or so can be ironed out. I would also like to offer my assistance in anything that you need help with. My communication problem does preclude me from doing certain things like hosting events etc as it is important to be able to speak to people to do that but I am happy to do anything else that you need some assistance with.

One of the main reason we are letting Auto Gears is because of the numbers. We want drivers that can make every race, no just a couple. And some of the drivers(From the F1 2010 league) have already said that they will be using Auto gears.

    Pete,
In my view Brams has been asked if it was allowable and made our case pretty clear. His reponse wished us well and indicated a general acceptance of our request.
I think we can run with that really.
    Thanks for the support.

On reflection I think that its pretty obvious that you can't please all the people all the time.
I sat down to collate and edit the introduction to the League and rules. There are dozens of things that we could all vote on in there too.
    Key stuff like:
    Assists
    Number of races
Which tracks are cut if any.
    race distance
    Points system.
In my view these are key decisions that need voting.
Than we get into the dozens of other smaller decisions that need to be made. If we can't make any decisions without a vote of all (potential) drivers it will be Christmas before we publish if at all. Interestingly the first attempted RD F1 2010 Chanmpionship series was cancelled as agreement could not be reached on all details.
So I'm afraid it takes a small committee of workers to get some of the stuff decided and done. At the moment its Dylan, Richard and me. It takes a little trust that organisers are proceeding with the interests of drivers. If something critical is done wrong then a dialogue is needed. But an important skill is for people to be able to argue their point and argue against another persons view but maintain respect for the person. Its a different thing deconstructing an argument vs attacking someones character or integrity. One results in a nod of agreement and respect, the other opens wounds that take longer to heal.

Getting back to pleasing all the people it seems that there are high assist fans and low assist fans. No voting will create a league to please both. The letter to Bram touched on the plans to have two WDCs. the working title is "World Drivers Championship" and "World Drivers Cup".One for Non assist one for full assists. The reasone are detailed therein. Many of these concepts have been inspired by successful series elswhere eg FSR and ARL.
The idea however was to accommodate both preferences.

There is good support for and so there is going to be a no assists league. That ship has sailed in my view. Part of my motivation is to make it a success.
I think that the drivers who want a successful assist League need to start working towards that rather than trying to change the no assists league.

Pete: One job that we need to fill for 2011 game is that of "Press Officer". You know interviews, press conferences/releases maybe a mini journal like Exhaust Fumes" from PC league. You write very well and maybe would like to express interest in that one?

Andrew I drive every week with a pad, and rarely spin out due to a lack of traction control. (I spin out because Trulli wrecks me xD) The best advice I can give you is to use manual gears so you can shortshift in low-traction corners. Another thing that I find is that your control in steering is as important (if not more) than trottle input. Try to turn the toggle very easily, you'll be able to get the trigger down alot faster and gain alot more traction. Hope that helped.

Guy, I think you and your accusations are completely uncalled for and out of place. David does a brilliant job running this league and the weekly Pro-Am races, so I trust his judgement. I would suggest that you keep you stop making wild accusations because they are unfounded. Automatic gears are SLOWER. They are not so much an 'assist' as they are a hinderance. If someone isn't willing to put in the time to learn manual gears, thats fine, they'll be behind me. Without traction control, automatic gears is even worse. Often the AI leaves the revs too high and can create more wheelspin coming out of turns, causing problems.
