Rally - Mud n Slush @ Japan - Monday 6th & Tuesday 7th February 2012

i suggest checking that the physics of the cars are correct before using them for an event. Thanks :)

Your kidding aren't you?
You expect me to test drive 16 cars on 8 Stages before the rally is finalised? I do have a real life as well.
You had plenty of time to test drive the car you chose and change it if you wanted to. (or at least adjust the setup).

For the record, I did actually run a test with most of the cars across a few stages, including the Suby 2000 before setting this rally, and didn't notice anything strange. In fact, I was surprised that my times across all of the cars was very similar for the test stage (which incidently was Tanner). Of course, I'm not an alien so maybe I wasn't driving it on the absolute limit.
Sorry, that is the best I'm prepared to do when preparing rallys for the Club. ;)

EDIT: Didn't know Senad was replying at the same time, but at least our response was similar. ;)

Geez man, calm down, i just said "a suggestion" and that's what it was.

No i'm not kidding you.I know it's exagerated to test every car in every stage and i agree it takes a lot of time.

I know it's not possible to test every car at every stage (or atleast you're not willing to do that) because it takes a lot of time, the only thing i suggest is checking the cars, in general. But as i see you have checked them as you say no problem. And yes, i admit i didn't test the car and stages until right before the Rally, my fault. What impreses me is that you say you have tested the IMPREZA 2000 in the same conditons as stage 6 and had no problems  that's strange.

No complains, just a suggestion i see you didn't like, thanks again for a nice Rally, see you next week.

No, I didn't say that. I tested all of the cars (including the Subaru 2000) on Tanner, actually in damp conditions, not Tanner II in Mix, Wet, Dusk conditions. Incidently, I found that stage veeeery bumpy in my Xsara too, so I'd say it had more to do with the Stage than any specific car issue. Probably, the cars needed some suspension setup adjustment for that Stage, but that is up to the driver if he wants to go to that much trouble and time (especially for a Club Rally).

So first you say i had to test every stage but now you say it is much trouble and time for a club Rally?

Then sorry, i misunderstood, i thought you had tested the Impreza in those conditions. I re-tested the stage in the rally conditions to see if it was a suspension problem as you say and i adjusted the suspension, had the same result, car was bouncing all over the road, clearly not a car suspension problem LOL, but nevermind, not much of a problem ;)

Wow!!!!!! My first win here at RD:D I think this rally was very fun when i drove it and the car was very nice to drive, but to stand on the top of the podium i don't expected!
I was lucky that i had no mistakes at all, i nearly rolled the car once but it fall down on the wheels and i don't loose any time there. It could easily cost me an CFH.
But i get to the finish in one peace and thats brings me the topspot.

Thanks to those who set this rallys up and to all the drivers. This is very fun.

Magnar.

My connection was down the whole day, so I was not able to create EUZ, or drive in the rally even. Middle of the night in Australia, so Warren wasn't able to jump in either. Sorry Tero and Ole.

No need to be sorry for me! :) I wasn't ready for the start anyway. I'm not really a big fan of the Japan stages. YOu have made so many extra "only Ole" sessions, so, if you miss one, it's still Senad LOTS - Ole 1 ;P

In the future, try out the car before you choose it -> problem solved.

As quickly as the good cars got gobbled up, that was a little difficult this time. I was ready to grab an Impreza myself but by the time I could sign up, I was stuck with the Accent, which had it's own physics "quirks" I'll say. I felt like I was knee deep in mud on Tanner II. Though given the results of the car back in the day, this is probably accurate.

Two dumb mistakes held me back from a great finish. Went off on one of the few easy turns at Noiker, smacking the only tree in sight. And then got directionally impaired in the brush at Pirka, finding another tree trunk before I could find the road.

Great run by Magnar. After seeing your times in the US session, I had to try the Escort for myself. It's fast but I'd hardly say "nice" to drive. I was shocked at your times and even more shocked that you said you ran the default setup. Well-deserved win.

I'd also like to point out that in nearly every single club rally that I've run, all but one or two, the closest finish of the rally has involved me. This time I beat Jack Hintz by less than a quarter of a second. Which is a bit unfair to him because he got one additional second of a penalty for DNFing Noiker II than I did for DNFing Noiker I.

FWIW I found Tanner II to be a little odd to. There were a couple times where the dips in the track threw my car way off the road. Luckily I recovered without too much time loss.

niice. podium for me for the second time
. nice racing with everyone. and Congrats to Magnar. for the win congrats to manuel it would have been all yours but that is racing

I lost lots of time in the noikers, had a spin on both went off on ss1. i knew i had to push as i lost time on the first ss. and the times of Manuel and Gundars amazed me. after that too much pressure. and had to be extra cautious. execpt on the last ss. that one i had to give it the maximum attack. i had a near miss but no mistake.. Xara 1 - 2.

Thanks very much to the orgenisers , and i think we should respect and be polite to them as all this they do it for Free.

Stay Blessed Everyone.

Regarding the topic raised about the Subaru 2000 physics with the SS06 Stage (Tanner II, mix, bad weather, dusk) and possible flawed physics.

Just in case we might be overlooking / dismissing a serious flaw with this car, and because we intend to use these cars again in future rallys, I went back and tested it using almost identical conditions to this rally. The only part I changed was to use daylight instead of dusk, so that I could see the car physics better. Surely the physics doesn't change for dusk?
I used default setup, had no practice (except for my previious run last night in the Xsara), and tried to replicate my normal approach to driving a club rally.
As previously stated, I'm no alien, so I'm not right on the ultimate limit. My time wasn't brilliant, but it was comparable to the better times run in this rally. However, this is not the point of the exercise, except to show that I wasn't "cruising".

My findings:
I didn't see any evidence of flawed physics or excessive bouncing. In fact, I thought it was a bit more stable than the Xsara but that is probably due to differing driving styles for each driver.
This stage has some dangerous spots, eg. the high speed jumps in the tarmac section, where the car gets airborn, but we can't change the laws of gravity. Get the line or speed wrong here, and you could easily end up off the road (but that applies to any car). There are a couple of spots where cutting a corner will bounce the car badly, and maybe this happens more easily in the murky dusk setting. I can only assume that excessive bouncing may be due to pushing too hard or not staying on the main track surfaces, or using a different physics file to mine, which is default RSRBR2012.

Based on my findings, I can't see any reason to exclude the Subaru from future Rallys.

Here is the video of my run, maybe others can see physics issues that I can't. I know, I know, this run is full of little mistakes, but concentrate on the car's physics. :p

3 - T4's on the top Ten. not bad.

I think that might be more driver related than car related though. ;)

Just to let everyone know (if you haven't been with the Rally Club in previous years). We will be running more Events, this year, like this one using these cars, and we will impose a Rule that drivers can't drive the same make of car (Ford, Peugeot, Subaru etc) twice.
So, be prepared to drive something different and not just your favourite. :)

It's all part of our aim to keep some variety in the Rally Club.

sounds great! very good decision mate, will definitely be good for the club, and we shall see some more intense and interesting racing coming up in the near future :D
should also do it with some really random cars like the F2000 class etc ^^

Good work here Warren to sort this physics thing out, i think the bigges problem with these rally cars sits between the drivers ears:)
I really find this events incredible fun. It makes me drive cars i never had to tryed out whitout this clubrally.
For this rally i just take the Escort cos it was one of the few cars that was left then, i have never driven any car in this class so i guess my choice was a lucky one, cos this car was really a dream to drive. It fit my drivingstyle spot on with the default setup. I guess it is a big diffrenece in how the driver like the car to handle so one car can be nice to one driver an bad to another.
Hmmm another car next time, I hope that i pic a even faster car then:cool:

Magnar you were Fast. welcome to the Default setup mate. i always use Default setup only change the gears and mayb ride height slightly. im not good on doing setups at all. so i rely on the one that came with burns

I guess it is a big diffrenece in how the driver like the car to handle so one car can be nice to one driver an bad to another.

I think that sums it up precisely Magnar. ;)

I found it amusing when people said that "all the good cars were taken", I think it is more a popularity thing than real car differences.
I was actually amazed when I test drove each car (Didn't drive the 1999 and 2000 versions of the same car though) on Tanner (damp) when preparing the rally. My total range of times across all the cars was with 2 secs ( between 3:06 and 3:08 ). My fastest time was actually in the Skoda :p.
So, for me at least, there was almost no performance difference between them. However, some had handling that I preferred a bit more, but I'm confident that a bit of setup adjustment would fix that too.
Honestly, I could toss a coin and pick any of these cars and be happy, and most importantly, have fun. :D
