Lola T70 MkII Spyder (rF2) 0.95

Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets

    Fresh off the GT40 project in 1964, Lola's Eric Broadley designed his own sports racer, the T70, to race in 1965. It combined everything he had learned working for Ford with all of the ideas they wouldn't let him try. Though it was quick straight away, he immediately set to work on improving it and in 1966 the MkII was put into production. Lighter and faster, it dominated all competition on both sides of the Atlantic, proving to be unbeatable in nearly every event it entered. It won its debut race, the final round of the 1965 British Road Racing Championship, and then swept all 7 races the following year. It won 5 of 6 rounds of the 1966 Can Am series in North America and also won the US Road Racing Championship in '66 and '67.

    The chassis was designed to accept either a Ford or Chevrolet small-block V8 and cars competed with both, although the Chevrolet engines were more popular and, overall, more successful. Among the Chevrolet-powered teams was that of John Surtees, which became the de facto works outfit. It is Surtees' 1966 5.9L Can Am car that we have tried to re-create here.

    Credits:

    @aphidgod - physics, project lead
    @iRacer5 - sounds
    @Andy-R - skins, testing
    @pctm - skins
    @mantasisg - rFactor2 model export
    @NightEye87 - conversion work
    @A3DR - model import & improvement, shaders, textures
    @Alman - updated logo

    This car is built on an rFactor2 mod by CrossPly (available here @ RD) so first of all let me thank John for allowing me to use his work. Second, that work was partly based on the official Howston model (et al) so let me also thank Tim Wheatley & ISI/Studio 397 for permission to use those bits as well. I hope we've done you proud! :)

    Thanks also to John Starkey and Ian Bamsey, whose books were used as technical reference, and to everyone who has shared information about these cars on the internet. That's what it takes to bring these things to life.

    4k Skin Pack available here:
    http://www.racedepartment.com/threads/lola-t70-mkii-spyder-rf2-4k-skin-pack.137692/

    To-Do List:
    • couple of mesh issues left to fix
    • rim/knockoff blur
    • brake glow?
    • likely adjustments to some skins
    • fix that one thing I forgot :(

    This project is dedicated to Eric Broadley and John Surtees, both of whom we've lost during the completion of the work. RIP, gentlemen, and thanks for the fantastic car.

    Absolutely awesome car mod, loved driving it, you have really done it justice. Drive these against 917's and other vintage GT cars and its an amazing sim racing experience. Top Work!

    Very nice car to drive. graphics and sounds are top notch. A must have.
    I have only a small bug, when using baker_racing_team_21 skin, it doesn't show a small preview in assetto corsa UI but it works fine in showroom or in game. Every other skin shows preview perfectly. But it's not enough to lose a star ;)

      I appreciate that. I'm not sure why that particular skin would have a preview issue... I just downloaded the mod, checked the folder and the file is present and correct. Shows up fine for me in CM and official launcher... have you tried reloading the UI, if you're using the official launcher? I'll also post a link to a copy of that file in the support thread.

    such a good car, nice work mate.
    are u interested on doing more old racing cars? I would like to see some of the can am's mclarens, they look so similar and they re pretty much from the same time so it would be good if u could think about it
    here is a link with the cars info http://cars.mclaren.com/can-am/cars.html

      Thanks. :) I'd love to do an M1, M6, or maybe even a Chaparral, and I might in the future... but I'm just a physics guy. My decisions on cars are guided more by my access to models than anything else.

    excellent work, good all around, looks great, sound good and drive as expected. One little thing, maybe more because I drive in VR, but the wheel looks 'flat", the bolts in the center have not depth, would be nicer with a more realistic wheel.

      I suspect that's one of many details that were compromised to meet rF2's polygon budget... In this brave new world of VR I imagine it's pretty obvious. It's probably worth updating, but I can't make any promises.

      And that's the difference you'd expect between a car that was the fastest automobile on the planet for 2 years and one which never reached the halfway point of development. ;)

      Glad you're enjoying this one.

    amazing car, amazing to drive. great sounds, interior, front engine sound and rear exhaust sound. but when watching a replay, the transition between front and rear sounds a bit off to me. I think the two sounds are too different, and the crossfading between the two don't sound natural.. still, a five star rating! amazing!
