Lola T70 MkII Spyder (rF2) 0.90

Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets

    Fresh off the GT40 project in 1964, Lola's Eric Broadley designed his own sports racer, the T70, to race in 1965. It combined everything he had learned working for Ford with all of the ideas they wouldn't let him try. Though it was quick straight away, he immediately set to work on improving it and in 1966 the MkII was put into production. Lighter and faster, it dominated all competition on both sides of the Atlantic, proving to be unbeatable in nearly every event it entered. It won its debut race, the final round of the 1965 British Road Racing Championship, and then swept all 7 races the following year. It won 5 of 6 rounds of the 1966 Can Am series in North America and also won the US Road Racing Championship in '66 and '67.

    The chassis was designed to accept either a Ford or Chevrolet small-block V8 and cars competed with both, although the Chevrolet engines were more popular and, overall, more successful. Among the Chevrolet-powered teams was that of John Surtees, which became the de facto works outfit. It is Surtees' 1966 5.9L Can Am car that we have tried to re-create here.

    Credits:

    @aphidgod - physics, project lead
    @iRacer5 - sounds
    @Andy-R - skins, testing
    @pctm - skins
    @mantasisg - rFactor2 model export
    @NightEye87 - conversion work
    @A3DR - model import & improvement, shaders, textures

    This car is built on an rFactor2 mod by CrossPly (available here @ RD) so first of all let me thank John for allowing me to use his work. Second, that work was partly based on the official Howston model (et al) so let me also thank Tim Wheatley & ISI/Studio 397 for permission to use those bits as well. I hope we've done you proud! :)

    Thanks also to John Starkey and Ian Bamsey, whose books were used as technical reference, and to everyone who has shared information about these cars on the internet. That's what it takes to bring these things to life.

    4k Skin Pack available here:
    http://www.racedepartment.com/threads/lola-t70-mkii-spyder-rf2-4k-skin-pack.137692/

    To-Do List:
    • couple of mesh issues left to fix
    • rim/knockoff blur
    • brake glow?
    • likely adjustments to some skins
    • fix that one thing I forgot :(

    This project is dedicated to Eric Broadley and John Surtees, both of whom we've lost during the completion of the work. RIP, gentlemen, and thanks for the fantastic car.

    Very cool, and even cooler that there can be this level of cooperation between different sims and modders. Great job!

    Great job, the only minor thing is that in VR the bolts on the steering wheel look flat.

    amazing car, amazing to drive. great sounds, interior, front engine sound and rear exhaust sound. but when watching a replay, the transition between front and rear sounds a bit off to me. I think the two sounds are too different, and the crossfading between the two don't sound natural.. still, a five star rating! amazing!

    A real pleasure to drive. It's a challenge, but one that is rewarding. Brilliant sounding as well.

    Absolutely fantastic!!!!! The best mod I tried in a while.. Impressive! Man, the feel this car could trasmit to me with my T500 is mind blowing! Great sounds, great physics, great pack of liveries! Like the gear change animation and great texture details. This could turn into official content imo! Seriously, one of the best cars I have ever drove in AC, too bad I can't give 6 stars! Congratulations and I hope you create more and more!

    Fantastic!
    Minor bug: I think the "changing gear" animation is a little odd...but that's it, besides that, 5*

    Without question - the best sounds of any Assetto Corsa car that I've come across (stock or mod). Brilliant job iRacer5!! You guys absolutely nailed this car. I'm sitting here in awe of the sounds of this car. Don't get me wrong, the sound isn't the only thing going for this Lola. No sir. Fantastic modeling (as always with A3DR) - I see this was definitely a group effort. Without mantasisg & NightEye87 we wouldn't have this wonderful car. So, I certainly thank both of you for moving this absolutely gorgeous car from rFactor into Assetto Corsa. Did I say that I liked the sounds yet? Man...what curves! She's a 10 boys! Thanks for the privilege...

    I don't review cars much but this one checks all the boxes. I had great fun throwing it around Bridgehampton during my final testing of the track!

    This one is the BEST!! Drives like a charm and feels very well balanced regarding the power and brakes.
    Before I used the "illegal??" mod by "smallblockhero" - which I found also very good - but quite overpowered and super brakes.
    So this one is my choice for the future!!
    I cannot find anything missing!!

    Fantastic work mate, I'm usually more into the road cars...
    But this is one of the exceptions for me...
    Beautifully executed project from everyone involved!

    But looking at the calibre of the names involved...
    I can't say I'm surpised by the level of quality achieved.

    Congratulations and thanks :)

    Looks great, sounds great, drives great! Fantastic mod.

    Would love to see a few more polys on the chrome dial surrounds and maybe a higher res texture for the dashboard.... otherwise it's looking wonderful.

    Physics feel spot on although my first thought was maybe it has a little too much grip? Be interesting to compare it to the GT40, Porsches and the forthcoming 330 P4!

    Many thanks to all involved.

    This is really well done. Physics, sounds, graphics, and historic skins. If anybody wants to race these, I have set up my server California Classics with these cars on the Bridgehampton historic Can Am track.
