R3E: Open Beta & Pricing Details
SimBin Studios AB and RaceRoom Entertainment AG have today released a new video highlighting the launch of an open beta for the Free2Race game, RaceRoom Racing Experience. With this announcement the studio is also revealing some of the price points for cars, tracks, and game modes to be sold through the store.
SimBin Studios AB and RaceRoom Entertainment AG have today announced an open beta for RaceRoom Racing Experience. With a planned launch next week where the store goes live, anyone can join the beta and begin to build the game of their dreams.
New Video – New Content
RaceRoom Racing Experience connects fans of racing around a game, motorsports portal, and online store combined and seamlessly built into one platform making it More Than a Game™.
Drivers begin their racing career in the portal and hit the track with plenty of free-to-play content. Shown in the promotional video, five free cars will be available to registered users and with two free tracks available in six layouts, there’s no shortage of tarmac to race on. Additional cars, tracks, and game modes will be available for purchase in the store.
Competitive Pricing
RaceRoom Racing Experience uses a virtual currency called vRP (Virtual Race Points) which is tied to the Steam Wallet technology. vRP is then used to complete microtransactions which instantly unlock desired game content or features.
“We’ve established what we believe is an ethical, fair, and competitive pricing structure. Users will have the ability to choose high quality pieces of content which can be purchased to enhance their racing experience, however every user can enjoy an authentic and rich racing adventure and remain competitive without spending a dime.” - Chris Speed, COO – SimBin Studios AB
Individual car model prices range from 199 vRP to 329 vRP which is approximately 2 – 3,5 EUR. Tracks will generally be running from 349 vRP to 549 vRP or about 3,5 – 5,5 EUR. Tracks and cars will also be available from time to time in bundles. New game modes such as the Get Real package and Apex Hunt will be available for 99 vRP equaling 1 EUR.
Download RaceRoom Racing Experience and get ready to share your passion for real and digital racing.

The game looks and sounds stunning, but the free-to-play model is absolutely horrendous. I’m extremely disappointed with the direction they chose for this game because it’s a terrible system for the consumer. I’m seeing this as a prequel to GTR3 (if it ever happens).
I don’t think it’s terrible for the consumer at all, it just depends on much content is paid-for.
Assuming that it doesn’t cost more than an average retail product for a decent amount of content, it shouldn’t be an issue.
Just got my look inside today.. and WOW….
really impressed with it..
no worries from me… This is going to be big..:)
Yes, this game i love, and i hope for mine RED Devil to come, Viper GTSR!
It’s nice to see simbin finally starting with open beta.
It looks like R3E will be direct competitor to simraceway.
And probably will splash them.
Free Content:
cars: Aquila, 134 Judd V8, Saleen S7r, Canhard RS2, DMD P20
Tracks: Lakeview, raceroom raceway
Purchase Content:
Cars: Mclaren Mp4, BMW z4, Vette C6R, Alpina B6, Audi R8, RUF ctr3, Canhard RSI, Cougar C14-1, Cougar C14-2, DMD P21, Mistral M530, Mistral M531 and BMW 635
Tracks: Bathurst, Honckenhein, Algarve, zandvoort
get real
Apex hunt
So these are all the content for the initial release, lets say i guy wants to have all, and say that tracks costs 5 EUR, and cars 3,5 EUR.
So the guys has to spend 45EUR for cars, and 20 EUR for tracks, plus 2 EUR for get real and apex.
TOTAL: 67,5 EURO* or 89 dollars
*price will be lower, as not all car and tracks costs the same, i did the sum with max price.
I dont like this free to play format they are using. Up to 3,5 euros for a car and 5,5 for a track just seems really expensive. I think I just pooped a little after reading Vinicius’ post.
This is going to fail… go back to the old retail model, I’ll pay 30 quid for a game as long as it comes with all the content and allows mods. Not paying for this…. iracing has its place but this and sim raceway no way.
ive had a quick go on the beta. if its changed i apologise but as i recall 15 euros got you 500vrp and the cars mentioned were 289vrp each and tracks more. hence more expensive than vinicius worked out. ouch
I like the concept, and it being tied to my Steam wallet, but that’s a bit too pricey.
If Michael is correct, sheesh, I can get more decent complete games* than cars for this game.
*on Steam sales
These are still beta prizes, in the real game 100vRP is less than €1.
If I look at my racing experience I only need 2 cars from every series and not every track.
I got 5000vRP and than purchased everything including skins…Now i have left just above 1100 vRP
5000vRP= 39.99 Euro
I have to say it might not be like iRacing but is not far…so at this prices i am forced to say pass….Maybe they will winn some but after a month or so all will be ruined and more people will say the same,we have iRacing already.
Overall as a game is not bad at this stage.
Just to confirm my memory was lacking. 5 euros for 500vrp with varying levels up to 40 euros for 5000. get that in quick before i get slaughtered.lol bathhurst circuit 600vrp, a few more cars/tracks free now too
Not cool that you have to pay (even if only a little) just to try it with the assists off. I’m sure I will give in and do it but feels like having to pay for a demo.
For me this issue isn’t price – they seem OK. The problem is more that they are not currently offering cars I want to buy – just like iRacing.
Can you race AI?
Yes you can race AI.
Race AI? yep, and they are better than me.
You guys may want to brush up on your math a little.
That says a lot about your driving skills? :roflmao: Sorry that one was too easy
I wonder if you’ll be able to earn vRPs (like how you can earn credits in simraceway)… Also, if it’s tied to your steam wallet, does that mean that when the Steam sales come about every few months or so, you could get massive savings
Personally I hope not as these "racing for money" concepts bring up the bad side of people in online racing. Winning at all costs only for the money.
Can have disastrous consequences.
I was interested until I saw the infamous word STEAM. No thanks.
What keeps you from using Steam Alex?
I wonder that too – I personally think Steam is great. I love it. I also think it makes it easier for devs – by using Steam, it takes the hassle of distribution and money transactions away from Simbin, so they can concentrate on the actual game.
For those who have just 1~3 games at steam like me, it’s also just a must once launched client before game start and which occupys very little resource and time to execute. It’s no serious problem in general but also no welcome.
It’s the non-stop updates. I host LAN parties most weekends, and with 12 machines running over one feed it took FOREVER to update them all. And we would have to go though it every time since someone always forgot to turn updates off, and as you know if ONE person has a different version, no matter how trivial the update may be, we ALL have to update now.
Besides that I absolutely despise the control freak aspect of it.
Alex Forbin
Multiplay qualify will be the key factor if its worth it or not.
Must say the names of the Keyfeatures™ sound more spectacular than they are real life.
The award winning physics methodology and technology is a price they gave them selfs or are they hinting to the good al’days of GTR2 when they got an award for physics (thanks to ISI).
Key issue: How many people will have how many different cars doing the same races?
Or did they inplement some kind of ghost-feature? Maybe you see the car, the files are there, but you can’t drive it until having paid. Would be best! However you need to prevent hackers from tinkering then…
from what i understand (and i get things arse backwards sometimes ) if you wanted to race in a race with multimakes/multiclass you need to have 2 things the track and the car you wish to drive , you would not have to own all the cars you are racing against ….
andi
I really hope, you are right
!
Im sure i read the same or heard it on a vid, Just the track and car you want to drive..:)
Im sure it will all come clear later on. fingers crossed i heard correctly:O_o:
Alright, so it’s people forgetting to do things? That’s not an issue with Steam, that’s people stupid. :p
Also not too big on the Free to Play model tbh.
Maybe I’m still old school but want to buy a game and it should come with everything like tracks, cars etc. I tried iRacing and quit soon after because you have to buy this car and that track.
Modding is also a passion for lots of talented people and they are taking that away. (I might be wrong)
I don’t mind it actually, if it’s reasonably priced. I usually enjoy only a few cars anyway. But 5-10€ 3.5-5.5€ for a single non-laser scanned track is too much. 4 cars and 4 tracks, and you’re getting in the range of a full game.
EDIT: wrong price
The tracks are 3,5-5,5€
I was sooo happy hearing about the upcomming GTR3. They even released a website with engine sounds. And now they release this? Nah, Simbin, a huge disappointment. I have raced the demo (Logitech g27) and it felt i was racing with the keyboard, no matter the settings i used. It felt even worse than F1 2012…
I pass and stick to the GTR EVO. I have been a huge Simbin fan, and still are concerning previous titles but here it stops.
And by the way, its absolutly not about the money. If i can get quality i will pay for it. For example: is it possible to race against AI in a custom race with the same setup options as in GTR Evo?
No, it’s the BS of an endless stream of mostly meaningless updates just to make you feel that Steam is something worth having. That is bad enough, being REQUIRED to do the updates is what makes it truly worthless.
Alex Forbin
It’s not Steam deciding about updates – that’s being decided by the developers.
yes, we have the era of MMO games in RACING
