Alex Zanardi Wins Golden Medal at Paralympics

Eleven years ago former Formula One and WTCC driver Alessandro Zanardi lost both legs in a horrific crash at the Lausitzring during a ChampCar race. Today the heroic Italian proved again why he is an inspiration to many by claiming the golden medal at the Paralympics in London.

An emotional moment as Alex crossed the finishline first at the handbike race. The race was an individual time trial over 10 miles, which took place on and around the British Brands Hatch circuit. Zanardi finished the course in more than 24 minutes and remained in front of Germany’s Norbert Mosandl and American biker Oscar Sanchez.
