New FIA Formula E Championship Powered By Electric Energy
The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has reached an agreement to licence the commercial rights of the FIA Formula E Championship to a consortium of international investors, Formula E Holdings Ltd (FEH).
Formula E is a new FIA championship featuring Formula cars powered exclusively by electric energy. It represents a vision for the future of the motor industry over the coming decades.
FEH, the new promoter, has as anchor investor London-based entrepreneur Enrique Bañuelos, and as CEO and shareholder former MEP and racing team owner Alejandro Agag, who has a long experience in the motor sport business. Also associated with the project are Lord Drayson, Managing Partner of Drayson Racing Technologies, and Eric Barbaroux, Chairman of the French electric automotive company “Electric Formula”.
Demonstration runs of the Formula E cars will start in 2013, followed by the championship in 2014 with an objective of 10 teams and 20 drivers participating in the competition. The races will be ideally staged in the heart of the world’s leading cities, around their main landmarks.

So it’s race to see you can last the longest
Battery race
that’s it.. solar power vs Battery
if it rains the cars burn the track up… literally
As far as I know not. Unlike the solar or battery races across the globe, this is a try for commercial electric racing and that it is raced in a certain tournament fashion.
somebody get duracel batterries, they keep going on,on, on and on
But seriously I’m glad they done this, because it will be F1 when oil runs out.
Racing without the noise? No roaring engines… Only the sound of tirescrub?
Will they have KERS?
That would help them last.
But we will be able to hear drivers scream "Get out of the way you…"
It is awfull. Saw the Tesla race at ROC 2010, that was just horrible. Plus I had the pleasure (or not) to see the E-Bike championship at Oschersleben a couple of weeks ago. Didnt even hear tyrescrub and of the 9 starters only 4 made it over 10 laps :roflmao:
I cans see them now coming in for new tyres and a packet of AA batteries, lol.
Similar to when motor racing started then.
FIA is trolling here, arent they?
Don’t think they are as electric stuff is hot in motorsport at the moment
Whats next!
"pedal powered" cars and hand wound walkie talkies?
Is this in any way related to the Formulec project? http://www.formulec.org/
In 2050, F1′s future will be saved by hydrogen fuel-cell technology.
How long will a pitstop last ?
unless they do what audi did with there R8 etron, and synthetically create endinge sounds, http://youtu.be/eTnZW0LTiDc quite interesting still doesnt beat the sound of a wide open throttle V8 spinning at 18,000 RPM lol dont think you could ever beat that..

I was reading the news paper today and I came across this article about the upcoming Formula E which I just had to put into instagram due to the excitement.
The title says "Stockholm may have a Formula 1 race – for electric cars"

Well if thats the case and they create almost no sound like the ones we are sed to, then TV broadcasters better start adding sound engine enhancements so the viewers dont fall asleep..
I wouldnt mind electric….as long as they are fast, or better FASTER, and at least mimic some kind of loud sound, then i can say go for it, but so far, its in fetus stage, so i’ll personall have to see it evolve.
Here are more information about Formula E, hopefully you find them interesting.
A video by Financial Times covering Formula E.
Formula E will be running in 10 different city tracks.
England – London
China – Beijing
Italy – Rome
USA – Los Angeles
USA – Miami
Brazil – Rio de Janeiro
Malaysia – Putrajaya
Argentina – Buenos Aires
The 2 final tracks have yet to be confirmed, but Stockholm have been rumored to host Formula E since last year.
The specifications:
The cars accelerate from 0-100km/h (0-60mph) in 3 seconds, with a maximum speed of 220km/h.
Max Power is 280kW.
Weight 780kg.
Only have 2 gears. (I suspect reverse and 1st gear or neutral and 1st gear)
The Batteries are Lithium ion.
800 Voltage.
Batteries will last for 25mins in the first season.
Battery charging time is approximately 90 minutes.
More info:
Their will be 10 teams that take part in Formula E, each team has 2 drivers.
Each team will have 4 cars for each race, 2 cars per driver.
It should be noted that the drivers will be forced to change car on one of the pit stops because the batteries aren’t able to run through out the whole race. As the seasons progress, the Formula E Championship is looking to progressively increase the life of the batteries.
I was now wondering what do you guys think about Formula E?

looks good but not my cup of tea, im all for the enviroment, but i just love the V8′s & V12′s
… i mean nothing beats them sounds.
To be honest sound isn’t really a big deal for me. I’m really excited about the arrival of this series, I just hope somebody in the UK broadcasts it. Sky F1 will probably jump on it especially with the London race.
I really find this a quite cool championship as it focuses on future technology. Plus Alejandro Agag seems to have some cool ideas to draw the attention of the audience. So I am looking forward to see what he and the people he works with will come up with for the Formula E.
I should maybe add that the driver who tests and develop the current cars is former F1 driver Lucas Di Grassi.
