Sergio Pininfarina dies at 85

Sadly one of the best designers to have ever lived passed away on Tuesday, 3rd of July 2012. Born in Turin, Italy in 1926 Sergio Pininfarina did not only design numerous cars for Ferrari but also Peugeot, Hyundai, Maserati and, of course, Fiat. His work includes cars like the Ferrari Enzo, Ferrari Testarossa & Maserati Granturismo. Even tho most of us will never own a sports car designed by Pininfarina, I’m sure many of us love to drive them in the various sim racing games we all love.

Fantastic designer – I actually did own one of his designs – a 1978 Fiat 124 Spider

I also owned a Fiat 124 spider. I forgot what year it was. It was 30 years ago after all, but it was a great car and a design that still looks like it could sell today.

Pininfarina was a true genius. Personally, I like Zagato a tiny bit better because his designs were quirkier, but Pininfarina is equally dear to me. Pininfarina, Zagato and Bertone. Some of the best designers ever.
