Project CARS: Formula Gulf & Ruapuna Park Licenses Secured
Slightly Mad Studios added 2 more licenses to their already great repertoire of licenses for their upcoming game, Project CARS. Whilst it’s still being developed and in constant pre-alpha testing, both the Formula Gulf series and the Powerbuilt Raceway at Ruapuna Park are about to be added to the game and will probably be featured in one of the next updates.
The studio about their newest acquisition:
Thanks to the efforts of WMD member Andy Marshall and a partnership with Gulf Sport, Project CARS will be the first ever simulation to feature the Formula Gulf 1000, the world’s lowest cost, one-make, single seater series that gives promising drivers a path into the world of Formula Racing.
To give the nimble open wheeler a perfect new proving ground (and thanks to WMD member Mark Silcock’s help), Project CARS will also be featuring New Zealand’s Powerbuilt Raceway at Ruapuna Park. Located 13 kilometers northwest of Christchurch, Ruapuna is one of New Zealand’s premier road racing facilities.
The track comes with multiple layouts, ranging from a small club circuit and a tri-oval configuration to the 3.3 kilometer Grand Prix layout. The track has hosted multiple instances of the New Zealand Grand Prix; the fast flowing layout features many sweeping corners, making Ruapuna the perfect match for the Formula Gulf 1000.
Project CARS is partially community-funded and donors also have the possibility to actively vote on decisions being made by the developers, making the community part of creating a great game. Everyone can participate and play.

Not common series, not common track = NICE!
I guess the license wasn’t too expensive – especially since that way Formula Gulf can gather lots of PR as well. Same for the track. Like the addition, too.
It certainly makes a change for series not usually heard of, or at least one that doesn’t grab the headlines like the big name formulae.
Getting to grips with a track I’ve never heard of will be fun too, a was driving around Jim Ding, and now, I’m one of the fastest on there.
This Sim just keeps getting better!
Ruapuna was the last track I expected to be licensed by ANY game. WOOHOO! my local track in world class racing game
Great. Another license to be ruined by SMS.
i do not know which sim you are playing?
Don’t worry about him, bigt2424, he’s already played the new Formula Gulf in Project CARS so he knows SMS ruined it…
…it’s not like the Formula Gulf hasn’t even started being built in the game
…it’s not like Project CARS is anywhere near finished
Haters gonna hate.
They ruined the classic Lotus, they ruined the Zonda, they will ruin the Formula Gulf.
I’ve been a member of pCARS since day one. Still am a member and drive every weekly build.
I’m sorry, but there’s not a single “sim” car in the whole thing. It’s bad even for an arcade game. Just rubbish.
It’s a $50 screenshot maker.
