Hyundai back to WRC in 2013

Hyundai is one of the names that are constantly repeated as the next brand joining WRC. They are out of the championship for nine years, and it seems that now they want to show their models side to side with Volkswagen ones, said Auto Motor und Sport.

The choosen model to go back to WRC is the i20, and not the Veloster like most of fans expected. They want to promote their cars in Europe and continue growing in market share.

The i20 WRC prototype could be almost finished at this time in the european base of  Offenbach.

This IMHO is great news! We now will have 5 manufacturers in WRC! great to see this series getting back alive, it looked bad when only Citroen and Ford were competing. I’ll definitely be cheering for Hyundai as I just love some of the looks on their cars lately :)

Well, Citroën is rumoured to might pull out when Loeb retires. Ford is a “semi-manufacturer” team, with Ford Europe giving M-sport some money. But M-sport have to get much finance themselves. This is the reason why Solberg drives for free, and they sell a lot of cars!
Volkswagen is a manufacturer team, but with VW and Citroën, it might not be interesting for Ford anymore. And Mini… well… The prodrive-run team, is not the official team, anymore, but the former “brazil&portugal rally team” is now the “factory” team.

So, with luck. Three true manufacturer teams…

Well yea, I more meant about 5 different cars which origined from different manufacturer’s street models, at least in the way of chassis looks and the badges  . Thanks for some of the information though, I’m not following WRC as closely as some other series :)

the more the merrier, bring em on! hyundai was my favourite car in mcrae2, it was nicely nerdy and beautifully ugly. this looks way way more professional.

Oh this is awesome news, especially for i20 owners like myself. #mustFollow WRC next year onwards!
