Real Head Motion plugin released for rFactor 2

A plugin has been released for rFactor 2 by Sébastien Tixier (MagicFr) that attempts to simulate what a driver really feels and sees from his or her view in the cockpit. When a human being experiences forces of equilibrium, acceleration, gravitational pulls, bumps, deceleration, etc they are experiencing these sensations due to changes in the inner ear which in turn helps the eyes adjust to these variety of changes experienced in a car. In real life the sensation the driver experiences is a perception of the track being stable whereas the interior of the car itself seems to be the thing that is “moving” when the driver experiences the variety of physical forces in a car. This perception takes place due to adjustments being made within the inner ear, thus giving balance to our vision.

If any of you have noticed the head movement in rFactor it does not accurately portray this as the track is next to impossible to focus on in-car due to the view shaking so much. The problem is that most of us aren’t experiencing these forces in  our sim racing games so rFactor tries to compensate for this by having their version of head movement. Thus, as the author of this plugin argues,  “Instead of having the head/eye moving around the cockpit, it should be the cockpit that move around the point of view.”  This can be demonstrated with the following video:

I understand the point behind this, but honestly, it just looks silly and not at all like real life. Another case of “realism” gone too far IMO, just like “FFB should only reflect forces on the front wheels”…

rf1 had it changed it the day i got it

Wouldn’t true head motion start to look into the turn before the car got there? This is subtle and cool, but it requires going off track to tell it’s functioning.

Keep in mind guys that this is the initial release of this plugin. The creator of the plugin looks forward to future releases. I know this works well for me in iRacing (you can edit a certain file and it allows this to take place) Personally, this type of plugin works very well for me.

    Brandon is correct.
One of the few things I liked about iRacing was the motion plugin provided by the community.
    It worked wonders.

  6. Randy Chamberlin says:

I had an issue with it. When entered into session, car is spinning like in a dryer. lol. Pulled the plugin files out and the graphics are normal.

Great plugin, and its a WIP, he’s fixing problems and adding features almost every day.
