rFactor 2 – Beta content files ready for download
Couple of days ago ISI revealed in a detailed Q&A with RaceDepartment that the Beta content can be expected after the Christmas holidays. In the meantime they have already released the content of the beta with Torrents and the packages can be activated and installed after the holidays when the RF2 Exe file will be made available.
The content includes 1960 classic car, Renault Megane and Formula Renault. The last one also has a extra update as ISI would like to show how in the future updating mods is going to work.
To get the content follow this link.
(Torrents are now available. HTTP links will be added soon.)

I was really looking forward to this until I seen it was a torrent. I hate torrents and the software you need to use them. Very strange indeed that ISI decided to go this route only.
Torrents and their processes are the most efficient transport of large files known. Which is why it is used a lot in movie or software downloads.
The upcoming Outerra game engine will share all its internal model and terrain data with a built in torrent client coded into the engine itself. It should severely reduce the bandwidth needed to host content servers.
IE Guns don’t kill people.. People do. And Torrents don’t transport illegal material.. people do.
Not only, they will post http links soon as said in the article.
You can also have a quick look at the rFactor 2 forum here on RD. As community download links are already posted.
Nothing wrong with torrents. They just have a bad rep because of their links to piracy and deliberately malicious files. For genuine, legal file sharing they are rather good.
This is a good move my ISI. They have released the largest required downloads early, and via a method that actually gets faster and faster the more people use it. It gives us plenty of time to get the files… start them now, and just leave it going. Even if it takes a week, you’ll still have the files in time.
So, when the actual program files required to run the game are finally released, it will be a matter of downloading a further few hundred MB instead of multiple GB. That means vastly reduced server load, and far less likelihood of everything coming to a grinding halt due to excessive demand.
Nice of a developer to think ahead, for a change.
BEST CHRISTMAS EVER !
Now, gave us the executable.
That’s what we we’re waiting all Christmas long!
