Mercedes W125 AI physics

Mercedes W125 AI physics 0.9

This is an attempt to get the AC AI to play nicer with mantasisg's wonderful Mercedes W125.

If you've done any prewar racing with the 1937 cars you know that the AI likes to wheelspin pretty excessively in the W125. This not only creates huge smokescreens (see @GPLaps battenberg video) that can cause accidents, but it also severely slows the AI merc's since they can't put the power down effectively (tbf neither can I most of the time ).

I've tried a few things but eventually had to resort to creating a "AI version" of the car to race against offline.

Tweaks were done to:

ai.ini
drivetrain.ini
final.rto
power.lut
tyre_gp_37_rear_long.lut
tyres.ini

Without getting into details the AI version basically just has more straight-line grip and less power. The AI will also shift to a lower RPM redline.

I did some testing around Donington 1938 and the AI were roughly 5 seconds faster with the AI version of the car.

CarTime (5 lap average)
Mercedes W1252:14.175
Mercedes W125 AI2:10.607
Auto Union type c2:10.975

For reference, Manfred von Brauchitsch's 1937 pole time at Donington was a 2:10.4.

The AI car will have better performance at 'point and squirt' tracks (Donington, Monaco etc.) But overall I think the performance is now fairly balanced between the W125 and Auto Union across most pre-war tracks in my experience.

Installation:

Prerequisites:
Firstly if you don't already have the car, you can download it at assettocorsamods.net from mantasisg. Next you must install @aphidgod 's physics updates. You will also need the full paid version of content manager.

1. Make a copy/tune of the car and call it "mercedes_w125ai" (info on how to do this can be found pretty easily on youtube etc. if you don't know how).

2. Unpack the data of the new car copy.

3. Paste the unzipped download files into the unpacked data folder.

4. Re-pack the data and delete the old unpacked data folder.

Note: this is only intended for the ai to drive, don't recommend driving it yourself.
